    Children at Blackmoor Park Infants School have been listening to the Superbob road safety story today.

    Six-year-old Bobby Colleran died in West Derby in 2014 and his mum and dad have since vowed to protect other children by raising awareness.

  4. Parents of boy killed after being hit by van launch road safety book

    The parents of a boy from Liverpool, who died when he was hit by a van, have launched a book about road safety at his school.

  5. Chester Northgate regeneration plans 'will bring more shoppers'

    Plans to regenerate part of Chester city centre will bring more shoppers into the city, councillors insist.

    Plans for the scheme are in 'very early stages'

    The local authority approved proposals for the Northgate development yesterday - which include a cinema, market hall and hotel along with new shopping streets.

    The Northgate Project site covers the original location of a First Century Roman legionary fortress. 

    The remains of a strong room used to store valuables survives, but other remains were destroyed by building foundations in the 1960s.  

    Officials said an attraction may make use of the area's underground remains.

  6. Family welcomes prison death inquest conclusion

    The family of a prisoner who died after an asthma attack at HMP Liverpool have welcomed an inquest jury's conclusion about his death.

    The inquest jury concluded that "neglect" contributed to the death of Ashley Gill, 29, from North Wales on 29 April 2015.

    A statement from his family said: "We are pleased that the jury have recognised the criticisms of those who failed to care for Ashley and we hope that steps are taken to ensure that this does not happen again.”

  8. Coroner's concern over inmate's transfer

    A coroner has expressed his concern about the way the prisons system failed to communicate important medical information about an inmate with chronic asthma.

    Ashley Gill, 29, died from an asthma attack on 29 April 2015 - 28 days after he was transferred to HMP Liverpool from Forest Bank Prison in Greater Manchester.

    The jury at Liverpool coroner's court concluded that neglect "contributed" to his death.

    Liverpool Coroner Andre Rebello said he was concerned about the "continuity of healthcare for chronic disease conditions on transfer from one prison to another".

  9. Asthma inmate's prison death 'neglect'

    A lack of care plan and medication notes when an inmate was transferred to another jail contributed to his death from asthma, an inquest jury has concluded.

    Ashley Gill, 29, from North Wales, suffered the attack in his cell at HMP Liverpool on 29 April 2015. 

    The jury at Liverpool Coroner's Court said his death was accidental due to "acute exacerbation of asthma." 

    Coroner Andre Rebello has written a Preventing Future Deaths Report to Forest Bank Prison in Greater Manchester expressing concern about the "continuity of care" in the transfer of prisoners with chronic conditions.

  15. Liverpool's Lime Street to reopen after demolition work

    Lime Street in Liverpool will finally reopen overnight after several weeks of disruption for commuters.

    New shops and student accommodation planned for Lime Street

    Demolition work has been ongoing on the section of road between the Crown and Vine pubs - as part of a £39m regeneration project. 

    The buildings, including the former Futurist cinema, will be replaced with a hotel, shops, restaurants and student accommodation.

    Work has started on a major new music attraction for Liverpool.

    The British Music Experience is relocating from London and will be based in the old Passenger Lounge on the ground floor of the Cunard building. 

    It charts the history of British rock and pop from 1945 to the end of the 20th Century. 

    It is scheduled to open in February next year and is expected to attract about 200,000 visitors a year.

  17. Macca and Ringo premiere new Beatles documentary

    In cinemas today is new documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years, which had its world premiere in London last night attended by Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. 

    They joined director Ron Howard, John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and even Madonna to showcase the film, which tells the story of the Fab Four's rise from the Cavern Club in Liverpool to sell-out tours of America.
