Jam fan who rebuilt bombed collection

A fan of The Jam who lost his entire collection of memorabilia in the Manchester bomb has spoken about rebuilding it as it appears in a Liverpool exhibition.

Den Davis's prized items were a victim of the 1996 bomb when the building they were on display in was damaged.

After "sulking" for years at his loss, the archivist gathered together a new collection of items.

It formed the basis of a show described as the most "comprehensive exploration of the music, background, political and social impact" of the band at Liverpool's Cunard Building.

Man charged with manslaughter over Wallasey house fire death

A man has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter and cannabis production following a house fire in which a 63-year-old man was fatally injured.

The blaze broke out at a home in Penkett Road, Liscard, Wallasey, on the afternoon of 14 August 2015.

Two men and a woman were treated for smoke inhalation, and one of the men died the following month, Merseyside Police said. 

Ian Kennedy, 38, of Mosslands Drive, Wallasey, is due to appear before Wirral magistrates on 28 September. 

He is also charged with abstracting electricity.  

Crimewatch appeal over 2006 shooting

The death of a man shot in the head at work 10 years ago will feature on BBC One's Crimewatch programme later.

James Stanton, a 58-year-old from Thornton, was shot by two men who burst into Aintree Commercial Vehicles in Thornton on 24 July 2006.

They fled the scene in a stolen blue Toyota Avensis car, registration DM53 MKK, which was later found burnt out.

Police are still offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the men.

The problems include sexual harassment, body image and cyber bullying, along with evidence of child poverty and life expectancy.

Middlesbrough was ranked the worst place and Waverley in Surrey the best.

Anger at Chester amphitheatre decision

Plans to sell off a building which sits over the covered part of Chester's Roman amphitheatre have been approved, despite the objections of more than 18,000 people.

The listed building, which sits on part of Chester's amphitheatre, is set to be bought by pub and hotel chain Daniel Thwaites PLC. 

There have been calls for Dee House to be demolished so the Roman remains underneath can be fully excavated. 

A 150-year leasehold deal is due to be confirmed shortly which would see the building turned into a hotel and bar.

Travel: Car crashes into traffic lights in Liverpool

Murder of man 10 years ago to feature on Crimewatch

The murder of a man shot dead 10 years ago will feature on the BBC's Crimewatch programme tonight.

James Stanton, 58, from Thornton, was killed while at work at Aintree Commercial Vehicle in Ormskirk Road, on 24 July 2006. 

Police believe two men were responsible for the killing. 

Tonight detectives and Mr Stanton's wife Jean will appeal for information.

A reward of £20,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Campaign to find more foster carers launched

The You Can Foster campaign is being launched today highlighting the need for more people to come forward.

In Liverpool alone there are currently more than 300 children in need of a foster home.

The Italian scored four goals in 28 appearances for the Reds after arriving for £16m from AC Milan in 2014.

The money will buy equipment that will allow surgeons to scan patients during operations. 

It means people with brain tumours and other complex conditions will get access to the very latest technology.

The appeal was set up by the Dalglish family in 2005 after Marina was treated for breast cancer in 2003.

Today marks four years since the publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report into the disaster - a landmark in the families' fight for truth and justice. 

The panel's findings forced the original accidental death verdicts to be quashed and paved the way for fresh inquests into the deaths of the 96.

Sex assault GP faces being struck off

A GP who sexually assaulted two vulnerable patients faces being struck off. 

Dr Maxman Tembo, who used to work at Everton Road Health Centre, was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court. 

He received a 15-month suspended sentence, a four-month curfew and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

He faces a Medical Practitioners Tribunal hearing which is scheduled to last for the next three days.

Man held after Speke scrambler bike and drugs find

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a scrambler bike and drugs were discovered. 

Police carried out a search in Heathgate Avenue on Saturday during a crackdown against anti-social and nuisance use of off-road bikes.

The man, from Speke, who was arrested suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and possession of cannabis has been released pending further inquiries.

A new report claims Liverpool is the fifth worst area to be a girl in England and Wales - and Knowsley the 6th. 

The study by global children's charity Plan International ranked areas according to key indicators including child poverty, female life expectancy and GCSE results.

Middlesbrough was rated the worst and Waverley, Surrey, was rated the best.

North West Ambulance Service 'not hitting targets'

The North West Ambulance Service has admitted it is struggling to hit national response targets due to a rise in the number of threat-to-life calls.

A statement from the service (NWAS) said the number of 999 calls it has received increased by 25% this year.

In 2015, the service was 6% below the national target for services to respond to an emergency within eight minutes.

Wirral's Steve Cummings wins Tour of Britain

It is only the second time a Briton has won the event since its 2004 rebrand after Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2013.

The Clatterbridge rider finished in the main bunch as Australian Caleb Ewan won the sprint at Piccadilly Circus to end the 16-lap 100km course.
