    A father and son who run a well-known Liverpool donkey ride business have been charged with a raft of animal cruelty offences.  

  4. Dog dumped outside Dogs Trust in Huyton

    A dog was dumped outside a Merseyside Rescue Centre and it was so poorly it had to be put down, the RSPCA has revealed.

    The female Staffordshire bull terrier was so weak she couldn't stand up when she was left outside the Dogs Trust centre in Whiston Lane in Huyton on Monday.

    They want to find the person who left her there.

    Drivers in Cheshire are being advised of a series of overnight carriageway closures as work to complete new slip roads for the new £192m A556 Knutsford to Bowdon dual carriageway between the M6 and M56 continues.

  6. BreakingGMP officer suspended over alleged Hillsborough image use

    A police officer has been suspended for gross misconduct over the alleged use of images from the Hillsborough disaster in an internal training session, Greater Manchester Police said.

    In a separate incident in June, GMP apologised for using a "distressing" photo of Liverpool fans at Hillsborough on a poster advertising "Super Recognisers" who are skilled at picking out a face in a crowd.

    Asst Ch Con Debbie Ford said: “The fact that we believe these images have been used again is totally unacceptable."

    She has written to the victims' families apologising for the distress caused and has suspended the Super Recogniser programme until 2017.

  10. Former Eveton striker Bert Llewellyn dies aged 77

    Bert Llewellyn

    Former Everton footballer Bert Llewellyn has died at the age of 77. 

    He played 11 games for the blues in the 1950s, and went on to play for several other clubs including Crewe and Wigan. 

    In a statement, Everton said the thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and friends.

  11. Four-year-old boy injured in Speke shooting

    A four-year-old boy was injured during a double shooting in Liverpool.

    The boy suffered superficial injuries along with a 22-year-old woman after shots were fired at a property in Millwood Road in Speke last night.

    A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with wounds to his stomach.

    At an earlier incident a 27-year-old man suffered minor injuries after shots were fired at a property in Prenton Green at about 20:00.

  14. New routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport next summer

    Ryan Air

    Ryanair is adding new routes at Liverpool John Lennon Airport for next summer despite a warning it would be cutting back flights in the UK following the Brexit vote. 

    The new routes are to Bari in Italy, Barcleona Girona in Span and Prague in the Czech Republic as well as the introduction of summer routes to Marrakech in Morroco and Sofia in Bulgaria.

    Ryanair's Robin Kiely said there'll be growth in Liveprool this year and regional airports are "still growing strongly".

  15. Sick dog dumped outside Mersyeside rescue centre

    A dog that was so weak that it was unable to stand up has been dumped outside a rescue centre in Merseyside.

    Dog dropped off at Dog's Trust

    The female Staffordshire bull terrier was discovered collapsed at the Dog's Trust centre in Whiston Lane in Huyton on Monday morning. 

    The pet had to be put to down as it was too unwell to treat.

    The RSPCA is trying to find the person who dumped the dog.
