    There will be isolated light showers around this evening, but most places will be fine and cool with some pleasant sunshine to end the day.

    The grandson of a Liverpool-born World War One hero has spoken about his memories of his grandfather as a memorial stone was unveiled in the city's Sefton Park in tribute to him.

    One hundred years ago today 2nd Lieutenant Gabriel Coury braved German machine gun fire as he left his trench and went into no-man’s land to rescue his wounded commanding officer.

    His actions earned him a Victoria Cross.

  4. Liverpool boy, 16, killed in fatal stabbing

    A teenager who died after being stabbed in Shrewsbury last week has been formally identified by police as 16-year-old Michael Warham from Liverpool.

    West Mercia Police has made a fresh appeal for information, saying they want to talk to anyone who may have seen three young men wearing hooded jumpers and tracksuit bottoms near the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital at about 23:00 last Monday.

    Three people arrested last week have been released on bail.

    Michael's family released  a statement saying they are "devastated", and described him as a "much loved, remarkable young boy with a big heart and loving nature".

  5. Wirral man wanted following alleged assault that broke woman's jaw

    Police are trying to trace a Wirral man who has breached the conditions of his release from prison.

    Daniel Phillip Grattan

    Daniel Phillip Grattan, 26, was serving four years and four months for several assaults in the Cheshire area in October 2013 when he was released on licence to serve the rest of his sentence in the community.

    However following an allegation of domestic assault against a woman in her 20s in which she suffered a fractured jaw, Grattan has been recalled to prison.

    He has links to Birkenhead, Bootle, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Rockferry, Seacombe and Tranmere.

  11. Trial scheme sees contactless donation terminals for Chester walls attraction

    Here's our full story on the news that contactless card payment technology is being installed in Chester's medieval walls to encourage people to contribute to their upkeep.

    Visitors will be asked to make a donation by using bank cards or smart phones at the terminals.

    They are being installed at three locations of the walls; Amphitheatre, King Charles Tower and Newgate Tower.

    Donations are voluntary and the walls are still a free attraction, Cheshire West and Chester Council said.

    The Serious Fraud Office has opened a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption in the civil aviation business of Airbus Group

    The plane maker employs 10,000 people in the UK, including around 6,000 at Broughton near Chester.

    A memorial stone marking the bravery of a Liverpool-born World War One soldier has been unveiled at the city's Sefton Park.
