  4. Man admits sending death threats to MP Luciana Berger

    A man has admitted sending death threats to Merseyside Labour MP Luciana Berger.

    John Nimmo admitted two counts of sending a message causing anxiety or distress

    The Liverpool Wavertree MP was sent a number of emails, including one which said she would "get it like Jo Cox", South Tyneside magistrates were told.

    John Nimmo, 28, admitted two counts of sending a message causing anxiety or distress. He was remanded to be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on 24 August.

  9. £500k cannabis farm found after blaze breaks out in flat

    A cannabis farm with a street value of £500,00 was found at a Liverpool flat after a fire broke out.

    Firefighters were called to the address in Prescot Road, Fairfield, after the blaze was reported on Monday. 

    Merseyside Police said a "cannabis factory" was found in the second floor flat.

  10. Yacht rescued from dangerous conditions near Hilbre Island

    Hoylake RNLI Lifeboat has been called out to a yacht in difficult weather conditions off the Dee estuary.

    The skipper of the vessel called the coastguard at about 05:00 when the weather and sea conditions worsened.

    The yacht, which was travelling to Liverpool, was safely towed to Tranmere.

  11. Newly-elected councillor wants to run for metro mayor

    One of Knowsley's newly-elected Liberal Democrat councillors is seeking the party's nomination to be its candidate for metro mayor for the Liverpool city region.

    Carl Cashman won the Prescot North seat in May's local elections, and is the party's group leader at Knowsley Council. 

    Other Liberal Democrats are expected to put their names forward in the coming weeks, with party members selecting their candidate by November. 

    The mayoral election takes place in May 2017.

  13. Chester's Victorian camera obscura brought back to life

    A piece of Victorian technology has been brought back to life in Chester after lying unused for decades.

    The camera obscura is situated on top of the 14th Century Water Tower on the city walls and uses lenses to project a 360 degree view of the city.

    It offers panoramic views of landmarks including the town hall and Telford's Warehouse.

    Set up by the Victorians, it eventually fell into disrepair but has been reinstalled by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

  14. Rugby: Warrington to host St Helens in first game of Super 8s

    Warrington will host St Helens in the opening fixture of the Super 8s.

    The fixtures for the remaining seven matches of the season have been revealed in the last hour. 

    The Langtree Park game will be on 4 August, while Widnes start with a long trip to France to play Catalans on the 6th.

  15. Pedestrian seriously injured in Prescot hit-and-run collision

    A 22-year-old man was left with serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision in Prescot.

    The victim suffered a broken wrist, kidney damage and cuts and grazing to his legs, back and arms.  

    Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses after the incident, which happened between 01:00 and 04:00 on 17 July on Cross Lane, close to the junction with Florida Way.

  16. Outdoor cinema returns to Southport

    Southport's outdoor cinema returns next month, with three Hollywood blockbusters to be screened in King’s Gardens over the summer and into autumn.

    It's open to eveyone, with a suggested donation of £2 to the Friends of King's Gardens to help put on future events.
