    The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will kick off Liverpool International Music Festival's Summer Jam this evening.

    Summer Jam, a free event held in Sefton Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will also see names such as Sigma (live) Wretch 32 and Maverick Sabre perform.

  4. Two dogs rescued from hot car in Southport

    Two dogs have been rescued after being locked in a car in Southport in the hot weather.

    They were spotted in Union Street on Thursday afternoon. 

    Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are urging pet owners not to leave their dogs in parked vehicles in the warm weather as they overheat very quickly.

  6. St Helens MP: Corbyn wanted to call my former SF councillor father 'in attempt to bully me'

    St Helens MP Conor McGinn has accused Jeremy Corbyn of threatening to use his father - a former Sinn Féin councillor - in an attempt to "bully me into submission".

    Labour MP claimed the party's leader proposed phoning his father after an interview in which he said Mr Corbyn needed to "reach out beyond his comfort zone."

    When asked about the claims a spokesman for Mr Corbyn said "it's untrue".

  7. Mother warns of derelict site dangers after son fractures his spine

    The mother of a boy who fractured his spine while trespassing is warning people not play in derelict buildings.

    Kelly McCormick's 15-year-old son fell at least 20 ft from a skylight on to the concrete floor of a derelict building when he was trespassing on the Ravenhead Works site in St Helens with more than 40 other young people two weeks ago.

  10. Woman arrested over suspected abduction and assault in Toxteth

    A woman has been arrested following a suspected abduction and assault of a man yesterday evening.

    The man was left with cuts to his arms and head after it is believed he was dragged out of one car and into another by three men in the Croxteth Road area of Toxteth at about 17:45.

    A 54-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, assault and possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. She remains in custody for questioning.

  11. Birkenhead roads to stay closed over weekend after fire

    People living and working near the scene of a fire at a garage in Wirral have all been allowed to return.

    Plumes of black smoke were seen billowing above the three storey brick building in Price Street in Birkenhead and nearby properties were evacuated while fire crews tackled the blaze. 

    Price Street will remain closed between Duke Street and St Edward's Close over the weekend, while Building Control officers secure the site.

  12. Six tonnes of rubbish removed from Bootle streets

    About six tonnes of rubbish have been removed from the streets of Bootle as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour and environmental issues.

    Merseyside Police worked with organisations including Sefton Council and local housing agencies in the Hornby Road, Peel Road, Akenside Street and Gray Street areas over six weeks.

    A range of sporting and community activities have also been taking place.

  14. Paul McCartney named UK's most successful albums artist

    We don't know if there'll be room for it in his trophy cabinet what with the 21 Grammys, but Sir Paul McCartney has been handed what could well be his largest award - in recognition of being the UK's most successful albums artist of all time.

    Sir Paul's shared a video message on his website to thank fans for their continued support after being honoured with the Official Charts Company's award on the day the album chart turns 60 years old. 

    He said: "I remember when Please, Please Me went to number one, that was our first number one record, and it’s a beautiful feeling to suddenly get this, I mean it's amazing."

  18. Police investigate suspected abduction in Toxteth

    Police have launched an investigation after a man was dragged into a car in Toxteth last night during a suspected abduction. 

    It is believed he was assaulted by a gang of three hooded men on Cedar Grove. 

    The victim was pulled from one car, attacked and then dragged into a second car, say police.
