  7. New train station plans for Liverpool's 'Knowledge Quarter'

    Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has revealed more about plans for a new train station in Liverpool city centre.

    The proposals - originally announced last year - include a new business park on the site of old Archbishop Blanch School near to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

    The station will be part of what is being billed as a "knowledge quarter" - and Mayor Joe Anderson says it will create up to 10,000 jobs.

    A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the bodies of two women were found in Anfield.

    Concern was raised for the safety of two women inside a house on Cathedral Road at about 09:50.  

    Samantha Parkin, a friend of one of the victims, said she felt "numb".

    "I've cried, I've screamed, I've punched the wall and now I feel lost and in shock."

    Former Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise has announced his retirement from football at 35.

    He was part of the Reds European Cup winning side in Istanbul in 2005 and also won the FA Cup and League Cup during his seven years at Anfield.

    He had previously stated he wanted to continue playing until he was 40 in Norway but has now revealed he's hung up his boots because he is "no longer strong enough to perform at his best" and feels he "lacks motivation".
