  3. Lime Street to remain closed due to Futurist Cinema collapse risk, council says

    Part of Lime Street in Liverpool will remain closed until midnight on Tuesday due to the condition of the derelict former Futurist Cinema, the city council has said.

    Structural experts said the building is still at risk of collapse and in order to prevent any danger to the public, the road will remain closed from Skelhorne Street to Copperas Hill.

    There is pedestrian access on the street opposite the Futurist.

    Tranmere have signed striker Andy Cook in a two-year free-transfer deal from National League rivals Barrow.

    Cook scored 38 goals in 48 league games for Barrow after joining in July 2014 following his release by Grimsby.

  5. Coroner appeals to trace the family of woman from Birkdale

    The family of a 69-year-old woman from Birkdale who died are being urged to contract the coroner.

    Carol Ann Harris, of Hazelwood, Liverpool Road, died yesterday. There are no suspicious circumstances.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact Stephen Craig at Sefton Coroner’s Court.

  7. Watch: Liverpool's last urban dairy

    Cows in the heart of the city? The cow houses of Liverpool were urban dairies, supplying fresh milk and cheese to local people, and once home to over 4,000 cattle. 

    This delightful colour film from July 1975 records the departure of the animals from the last remaining cow house in Marlborough Road, West Derby, Liverpool.

  8. Warrington homes plan earmarked for approval

    Plans for 1,100 new houses next to the M62 near Warrington have been earmarked for approval ahead of a meeting tonight.

    The homes as well as shops and a hotel could be built at the Omega redevelopment site.

    Planning officers have recommended councillors approve the application.

  14. Cheshire Science Corridor enterprise zone launched

    An enterprise zone designed to attract jobs and businesses to sites across Cheshire has been launched.

    Warrington's Birchwood Park is part of the 'Cheshire Science Corridor' enterprise zone

    Four areas of the Cheshire Science Corridor will offer relief from business rates and other taxes, as well as access to 'super-fast' broadband.

    The zone includes sites where hundreds of jobs have been lost in recent years.

    Officials claim 20,000 jobs and 500 new businesses could be attracted to the county due to the incentives offered by the enterprise zone designation. Sites in Ellesmere Port, Warrington and east Cheshire will benefit from the new status.
