  2. Liverpool to light beacon for the Queen's 90th birthday

    Liverpool is to light a beacon to pay tribute to the Queen on her 90th birthday.

    Liverpool Town Hall

    A service will take place behind the Town Hall on 21 April, attended by Lord Mayor, Councillor Tony Concepcion, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead and dozens of sea cadets.

    The beacon is one of more than 1,000 being lit throughout the UK and the Commonwealth to mark Her Majesty’s birthday.

  3. Warrington Hospital STAR unit to close after funding cuts

    A unit at Warrington Hospital - which helps prepare elderly patients for discharge - is to close, after the local clinical commissioning group decided not to renew its funding. 

    The short term assessment and rehabilitation unit, known as STAR, which was held up as a national model - will shut at the end of the month. 

    Staff will be redeployed to other areas of the trust.

    A Birkenhead takeaway has had its licence revoked for breaching food and hygiene and licensing regulations.

    A Closure Order on Al Capone's on Argyle Street was issued after mice were found on the premises and food was incorrectly labelled.

    A 28-year-old man from Upper Parliament Street in Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of theft of gas and bailed pending further inquiries.
