  4. Man charged over £50k van drugs haul

    A 45-year-old man has been charged with possession with intent to supply drugs after cannabis with an estimated street value of £50,000 was discovered in a van in St Helens.

    Officers stopped a vehicle in East Lancashire Road, St Helens, at about 15:15 yesterday.

    The man, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, has also been charged with the unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle.

    A paedophile has been branded the "living embodiment of every parent's worst nightmare" after grabbing a girl of 11 off the street and raping her.

    Paul Ripley, 53, abducted the girl as she walked home in Ellesmere Port, Chester Crown Court heard.

    He bundled her into his car and drove her hundreds of miles north to a field where he raped her twice.

    Jailing him for ten years, Judge Nicholas Woodward told him he had acted "for your own sexual gratification".
