    The humboldt penguin chicks originate in South America and are very social animals native to the coastal areas of Peru and Chile.

  5. Liverpool's Queen Square bus station reopens

    Liverpool city centre's Queen Square bus station has reopened after a revamp costing more than £500,000.

    About 2,100 tonnes of concrete and 750 tonnes of tarmac have been laid during the resurfacing work, Merseytravel said.

  6. Trial date set for Tremeloes stars accused of sex assault

    Two members of 1960s pop group The Tremeloes have formally denied indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Chester following a gig.

    Richard Westwood, 72, and Leonard "Chip" Hawkes, 70, appeared via video link at Chester Crown Court.

    A trial date has been set for 6 February next year after they both pleaded not guilty to indecent assault. 

  7. Hillsborough tributes go on show at Museum of Liverpool

    A patchwork quilt and a painting are on display at the Museum of Liverpool ahead of the 27th anniversary of Hillsborough on 15 April.

    The resilience of the families of the 96 fans who died were the inspiration behind the painting of actress Sue Johnston and the quilt, a spokesperson for the museum said.

  11. Hillsborough coroner 'hopeful' court will resume tomorrow

    The Hillsborough inquests were abruptly adjourned this afternoon and will now resume in the morning.

    Coroner Sir John Goldring had been expected to conclude his summing up and the jury were to retire to consider their verdicts this afternoon but an issue with a juror meant the hearing could not continue.

    Sir John said he was "hopeful" the court will resume tomorrow. No further details were given.

  12. Football: Liverpool's Siobhan Chamberlain withdraws from England squad

    GoalkeeperSiobhan Chamberlain has withdrawn from the England women squad for their Euro 2017 qualifier double-header due to a knee injury.

    Sunderland's Rachael Laws has been called up to replace the 32-year-old Liverpool keeper.

    England face Belgium at the New York Stadium in Rotherham on Friday (19:55 kick-off). They have a 100% record so far in their qualifying campaign.

  13. Warning over Facebook waterpark event in Liverpool

    People are being warned not to give out any personal details for an event on social media advertising a water park in Liverpool.

    The "Safari WaterPark Tour UK" on Facebook promises a "water park adventure" at locations across the country in July and August.

    But Liverpool City Council said no application for a licence for the event has been made. 

    Nearly 5,000 people have signed up, with nearly 20,000 expressing an interest in going.

    Four humboldt penguin chicks have hatched at Chester Zoo, weighing in at only 75g each.

    Zookeepers have named the fuzzy chicks Wotsit, Quaver, Frazzle and Cheeto.

    The threatened humboldt penguin is from South America, living on the coastal areas of Peru and Chile and is a very social animal, the zoo said.

  18. Police negotiators called to man on Runcorn roof

    A man has been arrested after being spotted on the roof of a building in Runcorn this morning. 

    Police negotiators were called to the building on Cotton Lane in Halton Lodge just before 09:00 and he came down from the roof about four hours later. 

    After being checked over he was taken into custody.
