    Merseyside Police are trying to find out what caused the crash in which several girls were injured outside Belvedere Academy in south Liverpool.

  5. Liverpool crash latest

    A reminder of the latest news - eight girls aged between 11 and 17 have been injured in a collision with a car near a Liverpool school. 

    The North West Ambulance Service said two children were "critically" injured in the 15:20 GMT crash in Belvidere Road. 

    The driver of the Peugeot car involved, a woman in her 80s, was also injured and treated at the scene.  

    Seven of the girls were taken to hospital by ambulance, with one attending voluntarily.

  7. None of crash children in life-threatening condition - police

    None of the injured children are believed to be in a life-threatening condition in hospital, Merseyside Police said.

  8. Crash happened near school

    This is the scene at Belvedere School on Belvidere Road where a crash has left eight girls injured.

  9. Post update

    Duncan Aspinall, of Holmeswood Coaches, told the Liverpool Echo he believes two of the company’s coaches which were at the school were damaged.

    He said they ran three coaches from the school a day, taking about 140 to 150 children.

    He said the drivers were not injured, and were taken into the school with other people as the area was cleared.

  10. Paramedic found girls with 'serious head injuries and fractured limbs'

    Consultant paramedic Mike Jackson, who was first at the scene of the crash, said he found the girls on the floor and that "two are what we call time-critical and have very serious injuries ranging from head injuries and fractures of lower limbs".

    He added: "We have three serious patients, again a lot of those are fractures of limbs and head injuries and then we have three walking wounded with minor injuries."

    Seven were transported to hospital whilst one made her own way there. 

  11. Casualties taken to Alder Hey and Royal Liverpool

    Emergency services remain at the scene.

    Two casualties had critical injuries, three had serious injuries and three had minor injures, the North West Ambulance Service said. 

    Six of the injured, aged 11 to 13, have been taken to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, and one 17-year-old was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.  An eighth was discharged at the scene.

    The North West Ambulance Service said two of the children were "critically" injured in the crash, which happened in Belvidere Road at 15:20.

    Belvedere Academy posted a statement on its website: 

    Road traffic incident: Unfortunately there has been a road traffic accident outside the academy. School bus service will be significantly delayed. Please make arrangements to collect your daughter as soon as possible.

    Six girls aged between 11 and 13 have been injured in a collision with a car in Liverpool.

    Merseyside Police said some of the children were "seriously" injured in the crash, which happened in Belvidere Road at 15:20 GMT and involved a Peugeot.

    The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 80s, was also injured, and several nearby roads have been closed.

    The victims have all been taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
