  4. Alison Wilson murder: Daughters dealing with 'brutal and pointless death'

    I was in court earlier as the jury found Stephen Duggan guilty of murdering "good Samaritan" Alison Wilson and wounding Anthony Tomlinson after they intervened in a street row in Widnes in March.

    In her impact statement, one of Alison's sisters said the murder had "left a place in our hearts which can never be filled", adding that the 36-year-old's young daughters are having to deal with her "brutal and pointless death". 

    Sentencing him, the judge said Duggan had attacked the pair in a drunken temper and his crimes had affected the lives of "many others". As Duggan left the dock, he smirked.

    And he's been ruled out again for several weeks after suffering a hamstring problem during Sunday's defeat by Newcastle.  

    Thigh, calf and hip injuries restricted Sturridge to 18 appearances last season and he has played only six games this term - although he has bagged four goals along the way.

    A man who killed a "good Samaritan" after she stepped in to calm a row between him and a woman with a babyhas been jailed for life for her murder.

    Stephen Duggan, 29, of Runcorn, was found guilty of stabbing Alison Wilson in the neck with a broken wine bottle in Widnes after she tried and diffuse the argument late at night on 7 March.

    He was also found guilty of wounding Ms Wilson's partner, Anthony Tomlinson.

  11. Widnes street row murder: Man jailed for life

    A 28-year-old man from Widnes has been jailed for life for murdering a woman who tried to protect a baby caught up in a row between him and another woman.

    Liverpool Crown Court was told Stephen Duggan stabbed 36-year-old Alison Wilson in the neck with a broken bottle on Frank Street in Widnes in March. 

    The jury found him guilty of murdering Ms Wilson and wounding her friend Anthony Tomlinson with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
