Basketball: WBBL begins on the BBC tonight

BBC Sport's coverage of British basketball continues this evening.

After the BBL began on the BBC last week, this time it's the turn of the WBBL as the Leicester Riders take on the Manchester Mystics. 

Leicester are fourth in the table whilst Manchester sit top with five wins in their last five matches.

Airport's plan for new hangar set for approval

Plans for a new hangar at City Airport - better known as Barton Aerodrome - in Salford are set to be approved later.

Here is a full list of the failings and concerns indentified in a damning Ofsted report into children's services in Tameside.

Cheshire East Council will not renew Core Fit deal

Contracts to run school fitness programmes in east Cheshire will not be renewed by the council.

Cheshire East Council Leader Michael Jones stepped down last year following pressure over three deals given to his personal physiotherapist's firm.

The council blamed the ending of the deal on "budget constraints" despite an academic report saying Core Fit Ltd's classes "worked well".

A Cheshire Police probe into Mr Jones' links to the firm's owner is under way.

Man, 70, dies in Oldham 'hit-and-run'

A 70-year-old man has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Oldham.

The man died in hospital after he was found with serious injuries in Sandy Lane, Royton, at about 23:00 on Thursday.

Greater Manchester Police officers believe he was struck by a car which then failed to stop.

Sgt Lee Westhead appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

He added: “Similarly, if anyone is approached to carry out work on a vehicle that looks like it might have been involved in this incident, please contact us.”

CCTV released as police probe Wigan armed robberies

Police investigating armed robberies at two shops in Wigan have released CCTV images of suspects they are searching for.

The first raid happened at Bargain Booze on Orrell Road, Orrell on Tuesday, when a man armed with a gun stole a case of beer - while the terrified shop assistant locked himself in a store room.

Later that day, police believe the same man robbed Wilkinson Newsagents on Ormskirk Road, Newtown.

This time he demanded money, but a female member of staff twice refused, despite having a gun pointed at her.

The man stole a bottle of vodka and fled with another man, who on both occasions was acting as a lookout.

Tameside children's services: 'Serious failings' found by inspectors

"Serious and widespread failings" have been revealed in children's services in Tameside which have been rated "inadequate" by government inspectors.

An Ofsted inspection found a huge backlog of cases, a high turnover of staff and long delays in assessing children at risk of domestic abuse.

The service was rated "adequate" for safeguarding in 2012.

Tameside Council said it was committed to addressing the points raised "at the earliest opportunity".

The airline Jet2 says it's creating more than 100 new jobs for airfield workers and baggage handlers at Manchester Airport.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan's fighting qualities in adapting to his summer move to Old Trafford.

Tameside Council has said "no stone will be left unturned" as it vows to deliver better services.

Services for children in Tameside have become worse since Ofsted last inspected it. Social workers try very hard to help children, but they are given too many children to support to do the job well. This means that children do not always receive the right help as quickly as they should

Woman quizzed over man's murder

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 56-year-old man.

The victim was found with serious injuries at a house in Unsworth Way in Oldham at about 19:50  on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital and died a short time later. Details of his injuries have not yet been revealed.

The house was cordoned off while police carried out an investigation. A 58-year-old woman has been taken into custody for questioning.
