  3. Father charged after daughter's death in Altrincham car crash

    A man whose car crashed into a wall, killing his nine-year-old daughter, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

    Olivia Edohasim died when the Toyota Auris she was travelling in hit a brick wall on Manchester Road in Altrincham on 7 May. 

    Chizoro Barnabas Edohasim, 46, is also charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. 

    A second girl, aged 11, survived the crash but was seriously injured. 

    Mr Edohasim, of Huntspill Road, Altrincham, was bailed and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on 19 October. 

  4. RNLI safe water campaign

    A new scheme to keep children safe in water has been launched by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

    The charity has joined forces with Stockport company Life Leisure, who run swimming lessons for schools. 

    All children taught by the company will receive specialist safety training.   

  5. North West workless households number falling

    The number of workless households has hit a record low in the North West.

    The latest set of figures from the Office for National Statistics show the number of households across the region in which no-one has a job has dropped to 391,000 - down by 100,000 since 2010.

    It was his first start since injuring his foot playing for Saracens against Gloucester in 2014 - an injury that saw him undergo two operations, spend six months with a protective boot on and left him needing to learn how to run again.

    "I've had a rough time since I came to England originally," the 30-year-old ?Australian told BBC Sport.

    "It felt a bit emotional just before kick-off, I just got very excited. But as soon as that whistle went and the ball was in the air, from that point on it was just business."

  9. Missing man believed to have taken Manchester train

    A man who has been missing for two weeks has been seen on CCTV in Edinburgh and is believed to have travelled to Manchester.

    Stuart Hamilton, 37, has not seen his family and friends in a fortnight and this is his last confirmed sighting.

    The image shows Stuart at the bottom of the escalator at Edinburgh's Haymarket station about to board a train at 10:16 on Sunday. 

    Police Scotland and Greater Manchester Police are working together to try to find him.

    But in June, Oldham, like most of post-industrial England, voted decisively to leave the EU, in defiance of Labour's pro-Remain stance.

  14. Ancoats fall man 'tried to rescue cat'

    Neighbours of a man who fell out of a building in Ancoats say he had been trying to rescue a cat.

    The 25-year-old fell approximately 20ft onto the flat roof of the mezzanine below at around 05:00 on Tuesday.

    Paramedics say he was conscious when they arrived at the Royal Mills building on Cotton Street, but had sustained numerous injuries to his back and hips.

  16. Street UK short-term lender expands to London and Manchester

    Street UK, which says it is the first ethical provider of online short-term loans the UK, is expanding operations to borrowers in London and Manchester.

    The lender is non-profit-making and claims to be the cheapest such provider.  

    It is designed to help those who are financially excluded or who cannot borrow from banks. 

    Until now, Street UK has only been accessible to borrowers in the West Midlands, where it has five branches.

  17. Andy Burnham to leave shadow cabinet for Manchester mayor race

    Andy Burnham has said he will leave the shadow cabinet to concentrate on the race for Manchester mayor.

    He said "the last 12 months" in Labour have made him "profoundly sad".

    Echoing comments from deputy leader Tom Watson yesterday, he said he has been saddened to hear the achievements of the last Labour government "dismissed as if they were nothing".

    Some in the party "seem to prefer fighting each other than fighting the Tories", he said, adding that he has been loyal to "all four Labour leaders" he has served.
