  3. CCTV of man who threatened Bolton shop worker

    CCTV footage has been released of a man police want to speak to in connection with a knifepoint robbery in Bolton.

    A man who was carrying a knife and a carrier bag entered a newsagents on Entwistle Street, Tonge Moor, before diving over the counter and stealing money from the till.

    He told the 21-year-old worker that if she “did as she was told, she wouldn’t get hurt.” He ran off with cash and cigarettes.

  4. Football project aims to cut crime in Stockport

    Youngsters in parts of Stockport are being offered football sessions three nights a week under a scheme designed to cut crime and anti-social behaviour. 


    It is open to 10-16 year olds. The project runs until the middle of September.

  5. Armed robbers raid travel shop and steal foreign cash

    Three men, armed with a machete and crowbar, have stolen foreign currencies from a shop in Woodford Road, Bramhall, in a raid at 10:00 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.

  6. Moss Side stabbing: Further murder arrests over Abdul Hafidah death

    A woman, 20, and a man, 18, have been arrested on suspicion of murdering an 18-year-old in the Moss Side area of Manchester.

    Abdul Hafidah was stabbed after being hit by a car on Moss Lane East on 12 May. He died two days later.

    Thirteen other people, including two boys, aged 14 and 17, have previously been arrested and bailed in connection with his death. The woman and man have now been bailed.

    M62 is partially blocked and there is queuing traffic westbound between Junction 19 (Heywood) and Junction 18 (Simister Island) because of an accident. Congestion goes back to junction 21. 

  9. Oldham teenagers sentenced for torture of boy over £80 debt

    Five teenagers who tortured a 16-year-old boy over an £80 debt in a "sickening" hot iron attack have been sentenced.

    Shohaib Khan, Adam Hussain, Sufyan Yaqub and Ahsan Khan were detained while Naseem Ali, 17, was given a supervision order

    The boy was lured to a house in Oldham, where he was stripped and branded, before lemon juice was poured on the burns, Greater Manchester Police said.

    He was also bound with tape, beaten and had his hair cut off. The teenagers, aged between 15 and 17 and from Oldham, were sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

  10. Motorway link work set to start

    Work to complete the first major phase of Highways England’s £192m Knutsford to Bowdon A556 link road between the M6 and M56 will get underway on Monday.


    The eastbound exit slip road at junction 7 of the M56 closes from 02:00 on Monday for around four months as the junction, which serves motorway and A556 drivers as well as traffic on local roads, is totally remodelled.

    The new arrangements will provide direct ‘free flow’ access between the A556 and M56 without roundabouts or traffic lights when the work ends in November.

    It will also give local drivers easier access to the A556 and M56, as well as local A56 Lymm and Altrincham roads, in a new layout twinning the existing Bowdon roundabout with a new roundabout at Yarwood Heath.

  12. Pep Guardiola: Manchester City can play 'beautiful football' in Premier League

    New Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he came to England to prove it is possible to play in the Premier League.

    Guardiola said he had been "comfortable" at Bayern Munich, but wanted another test in his career.

    The Spaniard, 45, also admitted he had "absolutely everything" at Barcelona.

    When asked if he could play beautiful football in the tiki-taka style made famous at Barcelona, Guardiola said: "That's why I'm here."

  13. Knife and axe raiders grab phones and cash from home

    Three men armed an axe and a knife punched a man and stole two mobile phones and cash after entering a house in Wigan.

    Greater Manchester Police has just released details of the raid which took place on 26 June at about 21:20 in a home on Anderton Street, Ince.

    A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and bailed. 

  14. Travel: All lanes reopened on M6 northbound

    All lanes are now open on the M6 northbound between junctions 17 and 18 following a closure caused by a crash involving two lorries earlier.

  15. Boxing: Tyson Fury rematch set for 29 October

    Tyson Fury says his world heavyweight title rematch with Wladimir Klitschko will be on 29 October.

    Fury, 27, claimed the WBO, WBA and IBF belts from the 40-year-old Ukrainian in November 2015, but pulled out of a rematch scheduled for this month because of an ankle injury.

    The fighter from Wythenshawe tweeted: "16 weeks till I blast Klitschko out, can't wait. #manchesteroctober29"
