  3. Manchester council leader calls for Labour leadership election

    The leader of Manchester City Council is calling for a Labour leadership election after a motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn was passed by the party's MPs.

    Sir Richard Leese said: "How can you sustain your position after that level of dissatisfaction with your performance?"

    Mr Corbyn said the ballot had "no constitutional legitimacy" and said he would not "betray" the members who voted for him by resigning.

  6. Arrests over suspected hate crime

    Three people have been arrested over a suspected hate crime on a tram.

    The incident happened at about 7.40 on a tram travelling towards Manchester city centre and police were made aware after a video appeared online

    Two men, aged 20 and 18, and a 16-year-old boy are being questioned on suspicion of affray.

  7. Appeal after woman died when struck by car in Sale

    The driver of a car seen moments before a woman suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle is being urged to come forward.

    Helena Thurm, 25, from the Altrincham area, died in hospital after being struck by a Vauxhall Astra in Manchester Road on 20 June.

    A black Mercedes was seen turning right from Manchester Road to Park Road before she was injured. Officers believe the driver may have important information.

  8. Man in court over death in Ancoats

    A man has appeared in court charged with actual bodily harm after a man's body was found at a house in Ancoats.

    Duncan Keating was found dead at a property in Ancoats on Saturday evening

    Duncan Keating, 57, was found dead when police were called to Victoria Square on Saturday.

    Graham Dunn, 62, of Edge Lane in Droylsden, has been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on the 26 July.

  11. Man dies in Congleton crash

    A 25-year-old man has died after a crash in Congleton.


    Two cars crashed in Macclesfield Road in the village of Eaton at about 18:15 on Monday.

    The driver of the Renault Megane died at the scene and a woman who was travelling in the Vauxhall Corsa has been seriously injured, Cheshire Police said.

    Images and video footage have been released by police investigating a suspected hate crime on a tram travelling towards Manchester city centre.

  14. Travel: Engineering works causing tram disruption
