  3. Watch: Nan's polite internet search goes viral

    A grandmother from Oldham who wrote "please" and "thank you" in her internet search has become an online sensation.

    May Ashworth, 86, politely requested: "Please translate these roman numerals mcmxcviii thank you."

  4. Police horse, goat and donkeys tweet leads to ark banter

    People have been joking about arks after Cheshire Police tweeted an appeal to find a horse, two donkeys and a goat.

    The animals reportedly strayed onto Alderley Edge golf course

    The animals strayed on to a golf course in Alderley Edge on Thursday at about 06:50.

    Responses to the tweet included: "Due to the floods give Noah a call" and "I saw his ark passing through on Tuesday".

    A spokesman said officers were unable to find the animals following a search.

  5. Eight men from Manchester jailed for Teesside jeweller raids

    Eight men from Manchester have been jailed for their parts in the armed robberies of two Teesside jewellers.

    Damaged at jewellers after armed robbery

    They were members of a gang who stole watches and diamond jewellery worth £637,000 from the Market Cross stores in Yarm and Middlesbrough in November 2014 and January last year.

  6. Watch: Fresh appeal of 2008 takeaway murder

    A fresh appeal has been launched to catch the killer of a man who was shot at a takeaway more than eight years ago.

    Halton McCollin, 20, died on 22 January 2008, three days after he was attacked at China Garden in Stretford.

    A renewed appeal has featured on BBC One's Crimewatch Roadshow involving his friends, father and Greater Manchester Police.

    Detectives believe he was the innocent victim of mistaken identity.

    With only a week to go until voters go to the polls, expats living in Spain have given their views on the forthcoming EU referendum.

    About 1.3m Britons live in European countries outside the UK, with 319,000 of them in Spain.

    BBC North West Tonight asked people living in Salou for their thoughts, and also spoke to tourists in the wider Catalonia region.

    A crash involving six cars and a lorry has closed two lanes on the M60 anti-clockwise at junction 11 at Barton.

    Congestion is stretching back to junction 14 at the East Lancashire Road.

  15. Extent of emergency work to repair Hazel Grove and Buxton railway line revealed

    The extent of the work needed to shore up the earth that was dislodged when heavy rain caused a landslip at a railway line has been revealed.  

    These pictures show Network Rail engineers carrying out emergency repairs on the line between Buxton and Hazel Grove.
