  3. Bury 'arson' attacks linked, police say

    A number of suspected arson attacks in Bury dating back to March are being treated as linked, police said.

    The most recent fire where tyres were set on fire outside a property in Kay Street, took place on 27 April.

    Earlier incidents happened on the same street on 28 and 29 March, and in John Street on 27 March.

    Police are appealing for information.

  4. 'Caring son' died in Moss Side stabbing

    A man who died when he was stabbed after being hit by a car has been described as a "caring son".

    Abdul Hafidah, 18, died in hospital from a stab wound to the neck after being injured in Moss Lane East in the Moss Side area on 12 May.

    Paying tribute, his family said: "Abdul was a composed and caring son, who bought us all so much joy. You felt his presence when he was there and you missed it whenever he wasn't."

    Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A third was arrested for attempted murder and has been released on bail.

  5. Travel: M60 lane blocked

    One lane is blocked and there is slow traffic on the M60 clockwise between junction 6, Sale, and junction 7, Stretford, because of a crash involving two cars.

  6. Father who thwarted a carjacking attempt in Gorton 'feared for son's life'

    A father who stopped a carjacker as he attempted to drive off in his vehicle which had three-year-old son inside said he was "really concerned" about his little boy's life.

  10. Headstones at Blackley Jewish Cemetery destroyed

    Headstones at a Jewish cemetery have been destroyed in a "deliberate and targeted attack", police have said.

    Officers discovered 14 headstones had been knocked over and broken at Blackley Jewish Cemetery in Rochdale Road, Manchester, at about 15:45 BST on Wednesday.

    Police are treating it as a hate crime "because of the clear racial motivation".

    Ch Supt Wasim Chaudhry said: "This is a sickening act of criminal damage which we are taking very seriously."

  14. Burnham's Greater Manchester mayor campaign launched

    Andy Burnham says his heart is equally shared between Manchester and Liverpool on the day he launched his campaign for Greater Manchester mayor at The Lowry.

    He wants to rebalance England and make Greater Manchester "unashamedly entrepreneurial".

    His top transport priority would be the East to West HS3 rail link.

    The MP for Leigh was applauded as he said the main reason he wants the job is to integrate health and social care in the public sector.

  15. Burnham says Westminster has failed the North

    Shadow home secretary Andy Burnham told Labour activists "Westminster has failed the North" as he launched his campaign to become the party's candidate for mayor of Greater Manchester.

    The Leigh MP vowed to devote himself to the task of "rebalancing our country".

    Mr Burnham said the mayoral job was "cabinet-level" and required cabinet-level experience.

    In a speech in Salford he said Labour needed to "field its biggest hitters".
