  3. Sport: Entire FC United board to step down

    The entire board of National League North club FC United will stand down ahead of a proposed EGM.

    Four members, including one of the club's founders Adam Brown, have already left - with general manager Andy Walsh leaving in the summer. 

    The club has also been forced to make a public apology to another of its founders, John-Paul O’Neill, for allowing “misguided rumours” to spread over his involvement in threats to club staff.

  5. Lightning strike hits Wigan home

    A family escaped unhurt after lightning struck their home in Wigan.

    The strike left a huge hole in the roof and set fire to the loft.  

    Firefighters from Hindley put the blaze out which started at about 19:20 BST on Thursday.

  6. Newlove killer loses High Court bid to have sentence reduced

    A man who murdered a father-of-three outside his home in Warrington has lost a renewed bid to be released early from prison.

    Jordan Cunliffe was 16 when he was jailed for a minimum of 12 years in 2008 after Garry Newlove, 47, was kicked to death in Warrington in 2007.

    Mr Newlove died in hospital two days after being attacked by three people.

    Three men who were being questioned in connection with the murder of Jalal Uddin in Rochdale have been bailed.

  16. Sport: Will United delay Leicester's title challenge?

    BBC football commentator Guy Mowbray believes Manchester United will deny Leicester City the chance to win the Premier League title on Sunday.

    "I bet you've heard the same as me this week a few times: 'I think United will beat Leicester', said Mowbray.

    Leicester need just three points to be crowned champions.

    "It will have to be properly earned at Old Trafford though, with United motivated by their chase for a top-four finish and possibly a US-style 'not in our house' approach."
