  7. Brick Lane hosts its first tattoo convention

    Britain's biggest convention for tattoos takes place this weekend in east London and more than 1,000 inkings are expected to be sketched and drawn.

    The event - Tattoo Collective - aims to showcase the best local artistry and hosts 150 studios from across Britain and Ireland at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane.

    Miki Vialetto, co-founder of the event, said: "There are tattoo enthusiasts here from Switzerland, Italy and from Spain. It's a good opportunity for them to see what the UK and Ireland can give. 

    "We expect easily 1,000 tattoos to be drawn."

  8. Hammersmith soldier who won the Victoria cross is remembered 100 years on

    The extraordinary bravery of a soldier from Hammersmith during the First World War was remembered today. 

    One hundred years ago - Lance Sergeant Frederick Palmer captured an enemy trench - and defended it for hours - under heavy fire. 

    He was awarded the Victoria Cross and today he was honoured at a special ceremony.

    The Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Mercy Umeh, spoke to BBC London.

  10. Southern crisis: 'We need a politics aside approach'

    Aslef members have rejected a deal with Southern rail that would have ended a long-running industrial dispute.

    It had been arguing with parent firm, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), over driver-only operated (DOO) trains.

    Members of the drivers' union rejected the deal by 54.1% to 45.9%. The turnout was 72.7%.
