Ten years of Spires and Steeples

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

You may have attempted this in the past - but the Spires and Steeples challenge is back for its ten year anniversary.

The route starting in Lincoln and finishing in Sleaford is an off-road trail which follows marked public footpaths and bridleways crossing open fields and countryside lanes.

It's in aid of WheelPower which provides sports wheelchairs, training and support to disabled people.

Spires and Steeples Challenge

It has such a great community feeling. We have participants take part from across the country and it’s great to see everyone supporting each other along the way whether they know each other or not. That’s what makes the challenge what it is.

It's taking place on Sunday 15 October.

Missing Newark man found

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Jail for Boston air rifle shooter

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

A Boston man who shot five members of the public with an air rifle after binging on vodka has been jailed for 14 months.

39-year-old Ruslanas Solovjovas of Vauxhall Road, took pot shots from the upstairs flat of the former Wellington pub building on November 13 last year. Armed police rushed to the Frieston Road area of the town as a result.

When police entered the building they found a clearly drunk Solovjovas who told them he was "Jesus Christ."

Passing sentence today at Lincoln Crown Court, Judge Michael Heath told him that he had behaved "stupidly."

Fortunately the physical injuries were not serious. However, you could have caused the loss of eyes and heaven knows what would have happened if you had hit somebody in the temple.

Weather Watchers: Lincolnshire's big skies

BBC Weather Watchers

Because a lot of Lincolnshire is rather flat it makes the skies seem bigger than almost anywhere else.

We think that this photo taken by wrobz in Goltho near Wragby shows this off perfectly.

Bird flu 'threatens farmer's free-range status'

Harry Parkhill

BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

A Lincolnshire farmer says he could face a hefty bill because of bird flu precautions.

Outbreaks of avian flu in the past few weeks have meant poultry has had to be kept indoors.

Neil Scaman, an egg farmer, says keeping the birds inside could mean his produce losing its free-range status.

Will we have to change the packaging and things like that? It could get very expensive... but it's just one of those things and our hands are tied until Defra tell us we can let our birds out.

Neil ScamanFarmer

The government says farmers keep the free range status for 12 weeks in special circumstances.

Couple face court action for taking child out of school to family wedding

A couple from Cleethorpes are in court for taking their son out of school during term time.

They are appearing before magistrates in Grimsby because their 10-year-old son missed 10 days of school to go to a family wedding.

Lego Red Arrows campaign takes off

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

You might remember when we told you about the campaign to get the Red Arrows immortalised in those famous plastic bricks.

A design created by former Reds engineer, Flight Lieutenant Marcus Ramsden is currently on the Lego Ideas website. If it gets 10,000 votes then Lego will considering putting it on shelves all over the world.

Well, in just the space of two weeks more than 6,000 people have backed the design!

Marcus says he's thrilled it's proved so popular already and explains why he did it:

The whole aim was to inspire the next generation and hopefully the design will let children across the globe learn about the Red Arrows.

BBC Introducing in Lincolnshire rocks the Engine Shed

Jono Brine

Last night was Radio Lincolnshire's very first Plugged event.

A special line-up made up of the very best unsigned, under the radar talent in our county and beyond tore the house down at the Engine Shed in Lincoln.

It's not about X-Factor sob stories, or spinning chairs or obnoxious buzzers.

But it is about raw talent and all of the acts we choose have it in spades:

If you couldn't make it last night then watch this space because we hope we'll be able to announce the next Plugged line-up soon.

You can listen to some of the music we've played on our show in the past here.
