Skegness Town Council has given its support to controversial plans to build a hotel on the foreshore by five votes to four.

An 80 room Premier Inn is proposed for Pier Field.

Opponents say it will be an eyesore and take away from local hoteliers. But the Mayor of Skegness, Dick Edginton, says the resort would benefit from the development.

Planners at East Lindsey District Council will have the final say in the next few weeks.

RAF training aircraft 'avoided F-15 collision by 100ft'

Martin Slack

BBC Lincolnshire Live

A US fighter jet and an RAF training aircraft avoided a mid-air collision by around 100 feet in the skies above Lincolnshire, according to an official report.

The incident involved a twin-engined King Air from RAF Cranwell and an US Air Force F-15 in January this year.

Airprox, the body that investigates near misses, says the RAF pilot had been monitoring the F-15, but was "caught out" when one of them turned unexpectedly towards them.

The accident happened on the A1175 at Uffington at 21.20 on Monday evening.

PC Dave Mitchell, who's investigating the crash, said: "A motorist did stop to help the motorcyclist, and that witness has informed us that there were possibly three vehicles travelling in front of them that did not.

"These vehicles would have been directly behind the motorcyclist, so we desperately want to hear from those drivers."
