Over £1 million spent on prescribed paracetamol in Lincolnshire

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

The Lincolnshire East Clinical Commissioning group spent almost £450,000 last year on prescribed paracetamol, across the whole of the county the total was more than £1.2 million.

The commissioning group are asking people to reconsider before they request them via prescription as they can cost less than 30p at the supermarket but quickly add up for the NHS.

Pills
BBC

At a time when the NHS is facing huge financial pressures, providing small quantities of these painkillers on prescription is not an effective use of funds. Every time a doctor writes a prescription, the NHS incurs additional charges through dispensing and administrative fees, and if GP time is also included the cost rises even higher.

Security increase for Lincoln Pride after Orlando shooting

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

The organisers of Lincoln pride say they’ve increased security at popular LGBT venues in the city in response to the mass shooting in Orlando last Sunday

They're bringing in extra staff, more bag searches at the doors as well as a number of other measures.

The police made this statement:

We understand that tragic events, such as those in Orlando, can have an impact on feelings of safety so we are engaging with our LGBT communities to understand if they have any specific worries or concerns through our neighbourhood policing teams and through our ongoing engagement with our independent advisory groups.

Lessons to be learnt but unpreventable - review into baby death

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

An independent review into the death of a six month old baby in Lincolnshire has concluded that medical and child protection agencies could have shared information more effectively.

But the review- commissioned by the Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children Board- says the death of the baby couldn't have been prevented as he had a life limiting condition.

The report found that, during his life, the family were given support by a wide range of medical and health professionals. The Safeguarding Board says it's important that the agencies learn from the findings.

Grimsby Town striker not staying with the club

Mike White

Sports Reporter BBC Radio Humberside

Grimsby Town are set to lose Padraig Amond to League Two rivals Hartlepool United, the BBC has learned.

Padraig Amond
BBC

This is certain to be a stinging blow for the Mariners with Amond expected to undergo a medical today with Hartlepool.

As I understand it, Amond was only offered a one-year deal to stay at the club with the north-east club offering two.

Having also lost Toto Nsiala to Hartlepool, plus Richard Tait and Nathan Arnold expected to depart, this hasn't been the best of summers so far for Town boss Paul Hurst.

However, on the positive front, I'm hearing former Scunthorpe defender Andrew Boyce is close to agreeing a move to Blundell Park. Having impressed in previous loan spells, I'm told a deal could be in the offing as early as this week.
