  4. Weather: Staying dry with more cloud

    It will remain dry this evening and overnight with clear spells, but there will be more in the way of cloud pushing in during the early hours.

    On Tuesday it is expected to be a mainly dry day, but it looks set to be cloudier.

  5. Environmentally friendly buses take to the road

    Was your bus looking especially clean and shiny today? It could have been one of Nottingham's new bio-gas double deck buses.

    The first of the 67 environmentally friendly buses took to the streets earlier between Bulwell, City Hospital, Hucknall Road and the city centre.


    Soon they will also be on the Lilac 27, Purple 89 and Pink 28 routes followed by more later in the year.

    Nottingham City Transport has spent £20m on the new buses. It also received £1.12m of funding from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles to expand the bio-methane refuelling station at the city's main bus depot.

  6. Community offered reassurance following fatal fires

    Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed investigations are under way into the cause of two fatal fires in the county over the last few days.

    On Friday an 88-year-old man died in a flat in Bingham and the next day a 71-year-old woman died in a house fire in Bulwell.

    Mick Sharman from the fire service said: “Events like this remind us that fires can be devastating."

    Crews will be out in Bulwell tomorrow offering reassurance and support to those within the community.

  7. Woman dies after fall from first floor of store

    A woman died when she fell from the first floor of a store in Nottingham's Victoria Centre, police have said.

    Paramedics were called to Urban Outfitters on Friday afternoon, where the 74-year-old had suffered serious injuries.

    She was pronounced dead shortly at about 15:10, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    Nigel Wheatley, general manager for intu Victoria Centre, said: “We are very sorry to say that a customer passed away after an incident at one of our retailers on Friday afternoon, despite the paramedics and medical team’s best efforts.

    "Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends."

    Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

  8. Car transporter cab overturns in crash

    Highways England is expecting a large section of the A50 in Derbyshire to remain closed for "several hours" after a crash involving a car transporter and a tractor.

    The road is closed eastbound between J4 (Toyota Island) and J2 (Aston-on-Trent).

    It's reporting the cab of the car transporter has overturned and is on its side. Recovery has been requested.

  9. Shed fire spreads to house

    Three firefighting crews are currently dealing with a blaze in Carlton that started in a shed but has spread to a house.

    Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Morley Road at about 15:30.

    There are no reports of anyone being rescued or injured but people living nearby are being advised to close their windows and doors.

  10. Road closed after car transporter and tractor crash

    A section of the A50 is closed near Derby after a crash involving a car transporter and a tractor.

    The road is closed eastbound between J4 (Toyota) and J2 (Thulston). Highways England is suggesting drivers allow extra time for their journey.

    Derbyshire Police have said there are fortunately no injuries.

  14. Boy arrested after firefighters attacked

    A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a firefighter was assaulted at a skatepark on Friday.

    Police say that while firefighters were putting out a blaze at the park in Chesterfield Road, North Wingfield, two were attacked by a group who punched and threw bottles at them.

    One firefighter needed hospital treatment.

    The boy was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of assault and has been released while investigations continue.


    Deputy Chief Fire Offer, Gavin Tomlinson said the service was providing welfare support to their colleague.

    "Attacks like this place the safety of firefighters, and the people they are trying to protect, at risk. Thankfully, this type of incident is extremely rare in Derbyshire and it is only a tiny minority of people who would ever consider acting in such an irresponsible way," he added.

  15. Drivers warned of upcoming road closures

    The next phase of Leicester's London Road resurfacing work starts this evening.

    Waterloo Way will be closed at 19:00 between South Albion Street and Charles Street. London Road inbound will be left turn only onto Waterloo Way. Roads will reopen by 06:00 tomorrow morning.

    The work is part of the Connecting Leicester programme to make London Road safer and more attractive for cyclists and pedestrians, the council said.
