  4. Roads closed after crash

    Police have now published some information on the crash on Humberstone Gate.

    They say they were called just before 17:00 to a report of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians.

    Humberstone Gate is closed, from its junction with Charles Street to its junction with Wharf Street South. 

    Yeoman Street is also closed.

  8. Humberstone Gate crash: 'Smashed windscreen'

    Some eye witnesses have spoken to our reporters at the scene - one says he saw a car driving erratically.

    Another said the car's windscreen was smashed.

    We've heard the car was then seen driving the wrong way along Halford Street smashing into the sides of other vehicles.

    It's thought the car has since been abandoned.

    I've just spoken to the ambulance service about what's happened - they say they were called following reports of a car mounting the pavement on Humberstone Gate.

    Three people have been injured - one person seriously.

    They have a paramedic team and doctors there now.

    I'm just hearing there's been an "incident" on Charles Street in Leicester where a car has mounted the pavement near Primark.

    There are two ambulances and four police cars at the scene - it sounds like this could be serious.

  13. Deadline for Charter Street arrests

    I've just spoken to Leicestershire Police about the two men arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was found dead on Charter Street

    I was told detectives have until this evening to release or charge the men, who've been in custody since Saturday.

  14. Tasers for local neighbourhood officers

    Of the 150 officers to be trained with tasers about 100 will be in the Patrol and Resolutions Team - they are generally the first to respond to incidents.

  16. Only specialist officers currently have tasers

    At the moment the only police officers in Leicestershire with tasers are those in the East Midlands Operational Support Services unit (EMoPPS).

    There's 388 of them covering the whole of the East Midlands.

    Assistant Chief Constable Phil Kay says that if there is an incident in Leicestershire where a taser is needed it's often the EMoPPS firearms team who get called out to it - he thinks this isn't the best way.

  17. More police to carry tasers

    Leicestershire Police are going to equipp 150 more officers with a taser in the new year.

    They say it will increase public and officer safety.
