  3. Judge: Parents should feel no guilt

    As she sentenced Stephen Beadman and Luke Harlow, the judge Mrs Justice Cox said Kayleigh's parent's should feel no guilt for failing to realise she had been groomed online.

    She said: "It seems to me this is every parent's worst nightmare. It is absolutely clear to me absolutely no blame can be attached to them for what happened."

    Harlow denied knowing about what his neighbour did to Kayleigh.

    He told police he woke up on Sunday morning feeling “quite groggy” and did not know where Kayleigh Haywood was.

    He said her shoes were still in the flat.

    "He said he had got them at work, he is a landscape gardener. I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

    “I asked Stephen Beadman if he had seen her leave. He said no.”

    Beadman then took Kayleigh across a road where he raped her.

    He then marched her for a mile-and-a-half across rough ground to the spot where she was murdered with a brick.

    Mrs Justice Cox said at the sentencing: "I am entirely satisfied on the evidence that she would have been acutely distressed and frightened. 

    "She must have been absolutely terrified."

  11. Kayleigh Haywood: Witness saw Beadman chase Kayleigh

    Beadman joined Harlow and Kayleigh on the Saturday night - they were drinking at Harlow's flat on George Avenue in Ibstock.

    In police interviews, Beadman claimed he couldn't remember what happened.

    But a witness saw the 15-year-old running from the flat, naked from the waist down. She was being chased by Beadman who then pinned her to the ground.

    Another witness claims to have heard screaming.

  13. Judge highlights dangers of the internet

    Beadman and Harlow showed no emotion as they were sentenced.

    The judge told both men: "The case has shown once again the dangers to which young users of social media are exposed, to the grief and bewilderment of unsuspecting parents."

    There were cries of “yes” from the packed public gallery as Beadman and Harlow’s sentences were read out.

    Many members of Kayleigh’s family were in tears as they listened to the judge describe how she had been groomed by Harlow and tricked into going to his home.

  15. Kayleigh Haywood: Harlow introduced schoolgirl to Beadman

    Harlow told police they had a very "uneventful" Friday night where "nothing happened".

    Then on Saturday they watched three films on TV. He claimed Kayleigh was drinking heavily and didn't eat a proper meal.

    It was later that night that she met Harlow's neighbour Beadman. Harlow claims the 29-year-old drove him to get more alcohol, leaving Kayleigh in the flat.

  16. Kayleigh Haywood: Teen drank alcohol

    On Friday 11 November, Kayleigh's dad dropped her off outside Ibstock Leisure Centre - she said she was staying with a school friend.

    She then met up with Harlow and began drinking alcohol.

    Harlow told police she drank a whole bottle of wine because “she felt nervous about meeting me.”

    Harlow called Kayleigh his "princess" and arranged to meet with her on Friday 11 November.

    He wanted her to keep it a secret saying: "I am too old for you and I will get into trouble for seeing you."
