  2. Wood inspired Leicester comedian

    We've found out this afternoon that Victoria Wood has died of cancer aged 62.

    A Leicester comedian who's performed some of Victoria's songs said she was a massive inspiration to her.

    Elaine Pantling said: "She certainly knew her craft, there's no question about that.

    "There's something to be learnt from Victoria Wood. There are not that many women doing it in comedy and she really stood up for us women and I think she's a great example."

  5. Goneva nominated for European Player of the Year award

    Leicester Tigers wing Vereniki Goneva has been nominated for the 2016 European Player of the Year award. 

    The winger is joint top try-scorer in the European Champions Cup this season with six tries in his five appearances so far.

  6. British Gas moving operations to Leicester?

    British Gas is planning to close an office and call centre in the West Midlands with the loss of more than 680 jobs.

    The company say this won't affect workers at the British Gas depot near Fosse Park in Leicester.

    Instead, the union Unite say some operation at their Oldbury site may be relocated to here.

  7. Tigers need to play like Foxes

    It looks like Leicester Tigers will be taking a leaf out of Claudio Ranieri's book in the hope of making it to the European Champions Cup final.

    City are five points clear at the top of Premier League with four games left, while Tigers face Racing 92 in their Champions Cup semi-final on Sunday.

    Tigers centre, Mathew Tait, says: "For us it's been great to see how they cope with pressure.

    "Claudio Ranieri speaks very well about taking it game by game and the players seem to respond to that.

    "It would be nice if we can show that same composure come Sunday."

  11. Delay in strip club decision

    A decision on whether or not to grant a licence to a "sexual entertainment venue" near the Highcross in Leicester has been delayed.

    A Leicester City Council committee was due to make a decision on Lily's Lounge, in New Bond Street, last night.

    It's been postponed after the committee's chairman withdrew saying "he could not hear the application fairly" but the reason why has not been disclosed.

  12. Loros 'backing the blues'

    As you'll have probably seen, BBC Leicester are "backing the blues" next Friday. 

    We've teamed up with the Leicester Mercury to show our support for Leicester City by painting the town blue... not literally.

  13. Thousands sign for football screen

    More than 7,000 people have now signed a petition for big television screens to be put up in the city to show Leicester City's last game of the season.

    The petition only needs another 266 supporters to reach their target.

    It'll then be handed in to Leicester City Football Club and Leicester City Council.

    The last game will be away to Chelsea - a lot of fans have been unable to get tickets.

    The number of people out of work has risen for the first time in nearly a year, increasing by 21,000 to 1.7m between December and February.
