  4. BreakingBBC presenters charged with child sex offences

    BBC Radio Leicester presenters Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer have this afternoon been charged with child sex offences. 

    Warwickshire police say the charges relate to four children in the 1990s. 

    In a statement, the BBC has said Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer remain off air and it understands the charges do not relate to their conduct or position at the BBC. 

    Both will appear at Warwickshire Magistrates' Court next month.

  5. Six changes to Tigers quarter-final squad

    Some Leicester Tigers squad news now for this weekend's European Champions Cup quarter-final against Stade Francais.

    There's six changes including a completely new back-row.

    Mike Fitzgerald and Brendon O'Connor make their first start after coming back from injury. 

    Locky Mccffrey is at number eight, Freddie Burns starts ahead of Owen Williams at fly-half, and Matthew Tait captains the side from full-back.

    Finally Marcos Ayerza comes in for Logovi'i Mulipola in the front-row.

  6. Leicestershire officially has a new High Sheriff

    The new High Sheriff of Leicestershire has been officially inducted at a ceremony in Leicester this afternoon. 

    Professor Surinder Sharma (left) is the co-director of the University of Leicester's Unit for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.

    He will be in post for 12 months and takes over from Gordon Arthur.

  7. Double action for Riders this weekend

    Leicester Riders can extend their lead at the top of the BBL Championship table this evening with victory away to Leeds Force.

    They play again tomorrow at home to Sheffield Sharks.

  8. Suffocating Afghan boy texted for help

    BBC News Online has more on a seven-year-old Afghan boy who was rescued after texting he was suffocating in a sealed lorry.

    Police say safeguarding measures have now been put in place for the child.

  10. Flames spread rapidly in Rothley barn

    At its worst, there were 30 firefighters at the farm in Rothley but thankfully no one has been injured.

    Paul McNally from the fire service and says: "We initially turned up to a barn with just smoke issuing but that rapidly escalated to the whole building being on fire.

    "Fortunately we've been able to protect neighbouring properties, unfortunately all the contents of the barn have been lost in the fire."

  11. Travel: Crash on A6 in Desborough

    If you're in or around the Market Harborough area it's worth noting two cars have crashed on the A6 just over the Northamptonshire border.

    The road is blocked in both directions at Desborough.

  12. Fire service scaling down in Rothley

    It looks like the fire in Rothley is nearly finished.

    A recent update from the fire service says crews were "damping down hot spots" and that the incident would be scaled down shortly.

  16. Charity worker: 'Boy was in dangerous situation'

    Tanya Freedman has been describing how a fellow charity worker informed her a seven-year-old had sent a text saying he was in a lorry with a group of illegal immigrants and they were running out of oxygen.

    She called Kent Police and between them and other agencies they managed to track down the lorry at Leicester Forest East service station.

    Ms Freedman said: "The boy was in a very dangerous situation. Some lives have been saved."

  17. Four to stand in police commissioner election

    Applications for Leicestershire's police and crime commissioner elections closed yesterday and in four weeks time, the votes will be counted and we'll have a new PCC.

    The current PCC, Sir Clive Loader (pictured), is standing down at the end of his term so Neil Bannister will be the Conservative candidate for the role.

    Labour are putting up Lord Willy Bach, Dr Sarah Hill is the Lib Dem candidate and UKIP are putting their hopes in David Sprason.

    Oliver Healey had planned to stand for the English Democrats but his name is not on the list of candidates. It's not yet known why.

  19. Charity worker called 'distressed' boy

    The boy, called Ahmed, had been stowed away in the container with his older brother.

    He had a mobile phone that was given to him in Calais by a charity as a way of keeping him safe.

    Yesterday, he sent a text message to one of the charity workers who was at a conference in New York.

    She then alerted another volunteer, Tanya Freedman, who was based in the UK. 

    Ms Freedman says:"Liz had called him and heard his distress and could tell that it was a really serious situation. She gave him advice about how to stay as still as possible and to conserve energy."
