    Police have released a statement on behalf of Kayleigh's family.

    “We would now ask that everyone respects our need for privacy at this harrowing time.”

    Tracey White, 60, from the village, said: "It's a close community here. Everyone knows someone who knows Kayleigh and you could see the purple ribbons everywhere. 

    "It's a sad time, but the community helped in the search and they will help and support the family now."

    More than £2,000 has now been donated to Kayleigh's family on an online fundraising website.

    She said: "As you can imagine Kayleigh's mum was extremely devastated and upset and all the range of emotions you go through when losing a child, anger being one of them.

    Saturday's Ibstock Christmas Festival and light switch-on has been cancelled "in light of the devastating events that have occurred in the last few days".

    The group organising the event made the announcement on Facebook late last night.

    They said their thoughts and prayers were with Kayleigh, her family, friends and loved ones.

  36. Kayleigh Haywood: Body find 'news everyone was dreading'

    It's the news everyone was dreading. Just before midnight police confirmed a body had been found in a field here in Ibstock shortly after 10pm last night.

    Last night about 200 people attended a prayer vigil for Kayleigh Haywood at Ibstock Community Garden.

    One of those there described the vigil as a "very sobering experience" with "a lot to think about, a lot of support and solidarity".

    Despite police treating the investigation as murder, people said they were staying hopeful that Kayleigh would be found safe and well.
