  2. Keighley drama teacher Lynne Rodgers had sex with boy

    A former drama teacher has been jailed for 10 months for sex offences involving a 13-year-old boy in the 1990s.

    Lynne Rodgers, then aged 30, engaged in sexual acts with the boy in her car.

    The West Yorkshire teacher took him to her home and invited him to have sex with her on the sofa.

    Rodgers, of Braithwaite Edge Road, Keighley, admitted gross indecency with a child and indecent assault and will be put on the sex offenders' register.

  5. Jo Cox: Woodland to be planted to celebrate murdered MP

    A community woodland is to be planted to celebrate the life of murdered West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox.

    The woodland, in Liversedge, will include an outdoor classroom, with local children involved in looking after the 2,000 trees and plants.

    The Spen Valley Civic Society hopes to finish planting the woodland by early next year.

    Mrs Cox, then MP for Batley and Spen, was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall in 2016, a week before the EU referendum vote.

  6. Cost of centre for disabled children may rise by £250,000

    The cost of building a new centre for disabled children and their families in York could rise by £250,000.

    And, if extra funding is not approved the whole £4.3 million pound project could be delayed, or potentially lose more than £1m of grant funding, according to a council report.

    The centre will offer support services for children and their families in the community as well as accommodation for short respite breaks.

    Councillors are going to be asked next week to approve an extra £250,000 for the centre, which is due to be built in Hob Moor, to help "manage the risk of overspend”.

  7. Rail company slammed over Hull station entrance closure

    Plans to close one of the entrances to Hull's Paragon Station in a bid to cut crime and anti-social behaviour have come under fire.

    TransPennine Express says from Monday it's closing the Anlaby Road exit between 9:30 and 16:30 for a three month trial.

    However, deputy leader of Hull City Council Darren Hale said he was "dismayed and angry at the lack of prior consultation" and planned to raise the issue with Transport for North.

    Cllr Darren Hale said: "We have significant concerns for the safety of customers, employees and our staff as they travel to and from the interchange and no not believe that there has been any contingency planning in the event of a fire, emergency, or security issue."

    TransPennine Express said closing the entrance was one of a number of recommendations made by British Transport Police.

  8. Speed camera operator 'threatened' in Sheffield

    South Yorkshire Police say they won't tolerate abuse of their staff after a speed camera operator was allegedly threatened in Sheffield.

    A 31-year-old man was arrested after reportedly threatening the camera van operative and violently shaking the vehicle on Chapeltown Road.

    He was apparently angry there weren't signs warning there would be a speed camera ahead at the time of the incident on Tuesday morning.

    The force said the man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause criminal damage and a public order offence and was later released under investigation.

  11. York boat trips cancelled after 'significant' river rise

    Sightseeing cruises in York have been cancelled today because of "a significant rise" in the river level in the city.

    City Cruises York, which offers an "entertaining and informative" tour of the River Ouse, said services had been cancelled for the day.

    The company says its fleet of red self-drive boats will not be available for hire either, for the same reason.

    City Cruises York apologised for any inconvenience and said it would provide an update about services on Saturday and Sunday as soon as possible.

  12. Death by dangerous driving arrest after motorcyclist dies

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a motorcyclist died in a collision involving a car.

    The motorcyclist died after his Kawasaki ZX 600 bike slid across the road and collided with a red Citreon C2 in Worsbrough.

    The 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on Kingwell Road at about 16:30 on Wednesday.

    South Yorkshire Police said a 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation.

  15. Lorry carrying sawdust catches fire on A1(M)

    A lorry carrying sawdust has caught fire on the A1(M) causing delays of up to 35 minutes.

    Hull City have revealed their new home kit for next season, and it has a decidedly retro feel about it.

  19. Volunteers digging into the past of Scarborough castle

    A project aimed at uncovering new secrets about Scarborough Castle's past is under way in the town.

    Previous excavations have unearthed the buried remains of a Bronze Age settlement, a Roman signal station, the site of an early 11th century chapel belonging to the Anglo-Scandinavian settlement, and an 18th century gun battery.

    Now, for the first time, Scarborough Archeaological and Historical Society's volunteers have been given access to land around the famous castle.

    They're excavating a new site which they hope will reveal more about the castle's history.

    The castle, parts of which date back to the 12th century, is a popular tourist attraction and sits on a hill overlooking the sea and the town.
