  1. Rotherham foster mum 'trembles in shock' over MBE

    A woman who has fostered more than 250 children over five decades has been appointed MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

    Christine Marie Lunn, 74, from North Anston, South Yorkshire, continues to foster and has vowed to "go on as long as I possibly can".

    She started taking in children in Rotherham in 1975 and still sees many of those she has helped over the years.

    The 74-year-old said she "trembled in shock all weekend" when she was told.

    "I'm absolutely dumbfounded, shocked, speechless, amazed - these things happen to other people," she said.

  2. Search for new Hull City manager 'already under way'

    The search has begun for a new Hull City FC manager after it was announced Nigel Adkins was to leave his role as head coach after 18 months in charge of the Championship club.

    The BBC understands Adkins had agreed a salary and budget, but rejected the offer of a new deal due to "other contractual terms".

    Adkins led the Tigers to a 13th-placed finish in the Championship last season.

    "After much careful consideration I have decided that our futures are not aligned," the 54-year-old said in a statement on social media

    Adkins and his assistant Andy Crosby will leave on 30 June and Hull FC says the search for his successor "is already under way".

  5. North Yorkshire schools lead York Pride parade

    Hundreds of pupils from 25 schools and colleges in and around York led the city's Pride parade at the weekend.


    The annual celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is organised by a charity and run by volunteers.

    The event set off from York Minster at 12:00 on Saturday, making its way through the city to the Knavesmire racecourse.

    Schools in Selby, Tadcaster, Malton and Ryedale were among those taking part.

    York Pride said it was "fantastic" to see schools supporting the event.

  7. West Yorkshire man named as three-bike crash victim

    A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash involving three motorbikes on the Isle of Man was from Bradford, police have confirmed.

    Joshua Keith Thornton, 23, from Baildon, was killed in the collision in Sloc Road in Colby on the Isle of Man at about 10:30 on Thursday.

    His family said he would be "deeply missed" by all his relatives and friends, Isle of Man Constabulary said.

    Mr Thornton died at the scene and two other men were taken to Noble's Hospital for treatment.

    One of the men, who suffered serious injuries, was later flown to the UK for further treatment.

    Insp Neil Craig appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the force.
