  4. Knaresborough woman nominated for road safety work

    A woman from Knaresborough who has had to use a wheelchair since being paralysed when she was hit by a van 10 years ago has been nominated for two awards for the work she does giving road safety advice to schools.

    Lauren Doherty has been nominated for volunteer of the year and outstanding contribution at the Yorkshire Choice Awards, which are being held in April.

    She said: "Even if one person didn't have to experience what I've been through, it would be really worthwhile."

  5. Sewer takes a battering from dumped Yorkshire puddings

    These photographs show dumped Yorkshire puddings clogging up a sewer.

    Anglian Water shared the photographs of the sewer in Ipswich on Twitter.

  6. Remote control helicopters stolen from house in York

    A pair of remote control helicopters have been stolen from a house in York.

    A vase was also taken from the property on Swale Avenue along with four women's coats during the robbery which happened at about 23:55 last night.

    North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

  7. Sheffield 1966 World Cup star Gordon Banks to be honoured

    A permanent tribute to World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks, who died earlier this week aged 81, is being discussed by the FA and Sheffield City Council.

    Banks was awarded "Sheffield Legend" status with the first ever star installed on the city’s hall of fame.

    He was born in Abbeydale in 1937 and made 628 appearances during a 15-year career in the Football League.

    Councillor Mary Lea said: "The people of Sheffield are sad to hear of the loss this week of Gordon Banks - one of the city's most famous sons.

    "We have committed to mark his achievements and are currently in discussions with the FA about how this could best be done."

  8. Leeds fatal collision: Woman named

    A woman who died in a fatal collision in Leeds has been named by police.

    Diane Rosalind Moore, 77, was driving on York Road at about 10:30 on 2 February when her VW Passat collided with a Vauxhall Corsa at a junction off the A64 with Marsh Lane.

    She was taken to hospital but died six days later.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

  10. Research finds 'association' between e-cigs and smoking

    Research at a Yorkshire medical school has found a link between e-cigarettes and people taking up smoking.

    The study, by researchers at Hull York Medical School, showed that some young people vape before trying real cigarettes.

    But Professor Kamran Siddiqi, who co-led the study, says the evidence needs to be treated with caution.

    He said: "Clearly there's some association between use of e-cigarettes and taking up smoking behaviour.

    "I don't think we have evidence to say it was e-cigarettes which led them to take up smoking, we still need to be vigilant but I don't think we should be too alarmed."

  13. CCTV appeal after burglary at Hull business

    Police have released CCTV images of two men they want to identify after a burglary at a business in Hull.

    Detectives investigating the raid, on Anlaby Road on Tuesday 8 January, have released images of the pair they want to talk to.

    Humberside Police want to hear from anyone who recognises the men in the photographs.
