  6. Watch: 62-year-old expedition car rescued, restored and reunited

    A Land Rover used for an 18,000-mile road trip from London to Singapore in 1955 has been restored in York after being saved from what was its final resting place on St Helena in the South Atlantic.

    The 62-year-old vehicle's now been reunited with two of the original expedition members.

  7. Woman, 78, killed in Wakefield car crash is named

    A West Yorkshire woman who was killed in a car crash last week has been named by police as they appeal for help in trying to work out the circumstances surrounding it.

    Marjorie Bedford

    Marjorie Bedford, 78, died in hospital two days after the crash in West Bretton, near Wakefield, last Monday.

    It happened at the junction of Bretton Lane and Bramley Lane when her silver Nissan Pixo was involved in a head-on collision with a green Honda Civic.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to come forward.

  8. University of Leeds staff on strike

    Staff at the University of Leeds are on strike over plans to change the way staff are dismissed.

    The University and College Union (UCU) claims bosses want to make it easier to sack people.

    But the university says the changes are only about modernising the system.

    Picket lines outside entrances to the university buildings are expected to remain until Friday.

  9. Doncaster bin strike called off

    The threat of bin strikes in Doncaster in the months up to Christmas is over.

    Contractor Suez and members the Unite union have reached a deal to suspend for a year the possibility of compulsory redundancies in the hope of cutting numbers through voluntary measures.

    There'll also be a better deal for anyone opting for redundancy.

  10. Travel update: Woman hit by car in Leeds

    A woman has been hit by car in Leeds this afternoon.

    It happened at about 16:30 on Headingley Lane and a woman in her 20s has been hurt - we don't know how seriously.

  11. CCTV appeal over Sheffield jewellery theft

    These are CCTV images police have just issued of two men wanted in connection with the theft of jewellery and cash from a house in Sheffield last month.

    The men are said to have forced entry into the property on Ripley Street via the back door at about midday on Tuesday 19 September.

    Anyone with information about the theft is being urged to contact police.

  12. Hawes community group takes over petrol station

    A village petrol station is to be taken over by a community group in a bid to save it from closure.

    The Upper Dales Community Partnership has taken out a three-year lease on the Dale Head Garage in Hawes.

    Had the petrol station closed, people living in the village faced a 36-mile round trip to buy fuel.

    During their tenure, members hope to buy the site via a community share offer and install a 24-hour self-service pump along with an electric charging point.

  13. NHS plans for Huddersfield hospital approved

    Plans to downgrade Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) and move A&E services to Halifax have been approved by members of Greater Huddersfield NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

    At a meeting this afternoon, the governing body of Huddersfield's CCG agreed that Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust's business case was sound.

    The trust wants all emergency acute and high-risk planned care to be transferred to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and to close and replace the 400-bed HRI.

    The trust's plans also need to be approved by Calderdale's CCG at a meeting tomorrow.

  15. Murder arrest after body found in search for missing man

    A body has been found and a man's been arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating the disappearance of Tyron Charles, from Denholme, near Bradford.

    Mr Charles, 29, went missing on 6 September and officers searching for him say they've now found a body near Nab Water Lane, Oxenhope.

    West Yorkshire Police say they're now trying to identify the body and say they have made three more arrests in connection with the investigation into his disappearance.

    A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 61-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    Another 28-year old man, James Sutcliffe, of Hill Crest View, has been charged with murder.

  16. BreakingCCG votes in favour of backing NHS plans for Huddersfield hospital

    Members of Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group - responsible for the planning and commissioning of health care services in the area - have voted 16-to-one in favour of supporting NHS plans which could see the closure of the A&E department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
