  2. Jet2 to run Monarch routes?

    Leeds-based airline Jet2 has emerged as a potential winner from the collapse of rival airline Monarch.

    The carrier who has their headquarters at Leeds Bradford airport is the latest airline to throw its hat in the ring to pick up the pieces from Monarch alongside Norwegian Air Shuttle and easyJet.

    Jet2 says it would add more than 550,000 summer seats to meet increased demand for flights at Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds Bradford.

  3. Multiple arrests in drugs raids across Leeds

    Twenty seven people have been arrested in Leeds this week for dealing in heroin and crack cocaine - police say they are infiltrating gangs who have been linked to incidents of gunfire in West Yorkshire.


    West Yorkshire Police say that they have raided more than 30 houses mainly in the Harehills and Chapeltown areas.

    The people arrested were involved in on-demand drug services called "ring and bring" and officers also recovered two handguns, 2kgs of heroin and 700 wraps of crack cocaine.

    Officers say that they've charged 17 people so far and expect to charge more.

  5. Doncaster named as obesity capital of Yorkshire

    Doncaster has a big problem as it has the second highest rate of overweight and obese people in England and is the least active place in Yorkshire.


    Nearly 1 in 3 people do less than 30 minutes of moderate exercise a week.

    Now the authorities have come up with a range of plans to get residents off the couch.

    It includes a football based exercise scheme that's linked to Doncaster Rovers.

  6. Bradford rapist's jail term increased

    A rapist from Bradford will spend longer in prison after Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP referred his original sentence to the Court of Appeal as unduly lenient.

    Lee Duffy, 26, was aged between 19 and 22 when he carried out his violent attacks against three separate women aged between 16 and 19.

    Duffy was convicted of four counts of rape and three counts of causing actual bodily harm at Bradford Crown Court in June this year.

    He was originally sentenced to eight years in prison, but the Court of Appeal ruled must now serve 13 years.

  8. Vulnerable Barnsley man robbed at knifepoint

    A vulnerable man was attacked and robbed at knifepoint by a man and woman after he had withdrawn money from a cash machine.

    Sometime between 12.20-12.55 on Wednesday 4 October, the man visited the New Lodge Post Office on Wakefield Road, to withdraw some cash.

    He was attacked by a man and a woman on Wingfield Road.

    Police say the victim has been left with minor injuries and is badly shaken and distressed.

    Officers want to hear from any witnesses.

  9. Two jailed for killing man in row about TV

    Two men have been jailed for the manslaughter of a man from Honley after he was stabbed to death in a row over a TV.

    Darren Moorhouse (pictured above), who was 49, had been visiting his friend at her home in Athol Close, Ovenden, in January when her ex-partner Christopher Churchill (below left) turned up to collect his belongings.

    Mr Moorhouse had intervened in a fight between the former couple, but he ended up being stabbed in the heart by Churchill's friend Dale Dwyer (below right).

    Dwyer, 26, of Alma Street, Buxton, and 34-year-old Churchill, formerly of Athol Close, were both found not guilty of murder following a two-week retrial at Bradford Crown Court, but the jury convicted them on the alternative charge of manslaughter.

    Dwyer was jailed for 15 years with an extended licence period of five years and Churchill, who had kicked Mr Moorhouse in the head as he lay dying after the stabbing, was sent to prison for 16 years.

    After the jury returned their verdicts it was revealed that Dwyer was sent to a young offenders institution in 2006 for raping two young girls while Churchill was jailed for five years in 2008 for robbery and GBH.

  10. Liz Dawn: Corrie stars bid farewell at Salford Cathedral funeral

    Coronation Street stars past and present are paying their final respects at the funeral of Liz Dawn, one of the soap's best-loved actresses.

    Ms Dawn, who played Vera Duckworth in the ITV soap for more than 30 years, died last week at the age of 77.

    A Requiem Mass took place at Salford Cathedral on Friday and will be followed by a private family committal.

    Her coffin was transported to the cathedral with a display of pale pink roses spelling the word "Mum".

    Cast members who have arrived at the service include Helen Worth, who plays Gail Rodwell; Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe; Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor; and Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster.

  11. Witnesses sought after man stabbed in back

    Detectives investigating a stabbing on Bowers Fold, Doncaster in the early hours of Sunday 1 October want to trace five men.

    A 23-year-old man was stabbed in the back sometime between 3:45 and 3:55 while walking along Bowers Fold after leaving Coco Bar, on Silver Street.

    He'd previously been involved in an altercation with a group of men inside the bar.

    Detective Constable Della O’Horo said: “At this time the men believed to be involved in the incident are thought to be the same group who were involved in the reported altercation inside Coco bar.”

    Police want to hear from any witnesses who were in the area.

  12. Location, location, location, at heart of York planning row

    People living near York say they support building 3,000 new homes nearby, but are questioning the precise location.

    City of York Council's current local plan calls for a large development at Elvington Airfield.

    Ian Bailey, from Elvington Parish Council, says they want the authority to reconsider the proposal:

    It's taken a decade of fundraising to pay for St Wilfrid's Place.

    There are 20 new apartments for adults with a history of homelessness and the chance for them to pick up important life skills.

  14. Watch: Norses for courses - Ship shape marathon man

    The fifth Yorkshire marathon takes place in York on Sunday.

    It's one of several events, all inspired by the late Jane Tomlinson, that have helped raise £10m for charity.

    Jim Mee has decided to run the event wearing a two and a half stone wooden replica of a Viking boat.

  16. Search for missing man from Leeds

    Police are trying to find a man from Leeds who has been missing for a more than a month.


    Joshua Murphy left the country for Europe on 1 September and his family are concerned for his welfare.

    Officers say they are "appealing directly" to the 28-year-old from Pudsey to contact them so they can check he is safe.
