  6. 'Wheelie good' new record set in North Yorkshire

    Here's one that may have passed you by, but it shouldn't because it's probably the greatest thing that happened this weekend - anywhere!

    The Motorcycle World Wheelie Championships took place at Elvington Airfield near York on Saturday and Sunday.

    Perhaps best of all it was won by a bloke called Ted. Ted Brady (pictured above) to be exact, the Irishman set a new Motorcycle Wheelie World speed record at just over 217mph over a kilometre.

    Nine riders in total completed the course, last year's top speed of 213 mph was superceded with help from a tail wind according to the organisers.

  9. Doncaster man jailed for 'disturbing imagery' of child abuse

    A man from Doncaster has been jailed for four years after police discovered he was talking about abusing a child in online chats and was in possession "disturbing imagery" of abuse.

    Steven Byrne, 32 from Radburn Road in Rossington, Doncaster was sentenced to four years in prison at Leeds Crown Court today after pleading guilty to trying to facilitate a child sex offence and indecent imagery offences.

    Officers arrested him in June after he was using social media to talk to another adult about sexually abusing a young child. They seized a computer and storage devices which revealed he had a number of indecent images.

    Det Insp Steve Greenbank said: "Some very disturbing imagery was found on computer storage."

  10. Dinosaurs in Sheffield?

    Dinosaurs have been spotted in Sheffield this week as a new interactive family show based on the creatures comes to the city's Lyceum Theatre.

    The production combines actors with puppets on stage and is on at the venue all week.

  12. Leeds Festival traffic advice released

    The 2017 Leeds Festival takes place this weekend and the Highways Agency has released advice for drivers who'll be around the Bramham Park venue this week.

    Motorists are advised that motorways, major A roads and surrounding minor roads near the site are likely to be busy all week, with Thursday traditionally the busiest day for festival traffic.

    Traffic travelling northbound will access the festival site from junction 45 of the A1, with southbound traffic being directed to use junction 44.

    The A64 will also be closed in both directions from 2100 on Sunday evening between the Bramham Interchange and the Fox and Grapes pub as people leave the festival site.

    The advice for non-festival traffic is to avoid the area.

  13. Billy's virtual marathon

    Local lad Billy Roe has done his bit to say "thank you" to Sheffield Children's Hospital by completing a virtual marathon for the charity.

    Eight-year-old Billy was first admitted to the hospital aged just one week and has since been diagnosed with Prader-Willi syndrome which which reduces muscle tone and makes moving difficult and painful.

    He did he 26.2 miles in stages across South Yorkshire and wanted to complete his challenge to thank all the staff for doing an "amazing job".

  14. ACAS intervene in Doncaster bin strike

    The conciliation service ACAS has been called in to try to resolve deadlocked talks between union officials and the bin collection operator SUEZ in a bid to avert a bin strike in Doncaster.

    A five day strike is planned from this Wednesday in a row over pay.

    The company says their latest pay offer has been rejected by UNITE which means the strike is looking all the more likely.

  16. Five police officers injured in Wakefield over weekend

    Five police officers in Wakefield were injured over the weekend in three separate incidents - including two dog attacks.


    Three female officers and two males were hurt in the attacks which resulted in one woman being charged with assaulting police officers and drunk and disorderly behaviour.

    In another incident, a male constable and female officer were left with serious injuries from a Staffordshire bull terrier when they were attending a call.

    Both needed to be treated in Pinderfields hospital for bite wounds to their lower bodies and a 34-year-old man was arrested and has been released.

    In a third incident, a male officer sustained a leg injury while assisting a colleague making an arrest in Wakefield.
