    Sarah Champion MP

It follows criticism over a newspaper article she wrote about grooming gangs.

The Rotherham MP wrote in The Sun that "Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls".

Ms Champion released the following statement this afternoon:

Quote Message: I apologise for the offence caused by the extremely poor choice of words in The Sun article on Friday. I am concerned that my continued position in the shadow cabinet would distract from the crucial issues around child protection which I have campaigned on my entire political career. It is therefore with regret that I tender my resignation as Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities." from Sarah Champion Labour MP for Rotherham

A 17-year-old who was arrested on Tuesday after a police car was rammed in Bradford has been released without charge.

  14. Cars caught speeding through motorway roadworks

West Yorkshire police are taking to twitter to urge drivers to slow down through roadworks on the M1.

The force says several drivers near junction 45 east of Leeds seem to have been trying their luck, driving through the stretch faster than the 50mph speed limit.

And officers have been catching speeding drivers in the process.

    Speed gun

Armed with their speed gun, they've been clocking drivers going over the speed limit, posting their results on Twitter.

The force says one driver even questioned the recalibration date of the device. Turns out, it's not until next March. The driver was reported for the offence.
