The city council said it was installing the safety equipment "to provide extra reassurance to residents."

Tenants will be consulted about the work later this year.

The authority also said exterior cladding used on the flats was "fireproof and complies with building and planning regulations".

    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

Hello and welcome to BBC Local Live in Yorkshire on Wednesday 21 June 2017.

We'll be with you throughout the day with all the latest news, sport, travel and weather updates.

It's another beautiful morning. The summer weather is creating some dramatic skylines, so I thought I'd start today with this wonderful BBC Weather Watcher pic from Hawes.

    WX

Weather Watcher Brian wrote a nicely detailed description to go with it too.

He says: "Light cloud spreads down from the North to the Yorkshire Dales, as the last of the evening sun lights up the trail of a plane bound for Canada."

Very poetic. I don't know how he knows where the plane is heading, but I'll take his word for it. Perhaps there's an app?
