    Severe disruption: M1 West Yorkshire northbound

  3. North Yorkshire village sold

    A Ryedale village which went on sale last year for £20m has been sold.

    Norfolk-based farming and property investment company Albanwise is due to complete the deal to buy West Heslerton, near Malton, on Friday. 

    It went on sale after the death of the estate's owner - it had been in the same family for more than 150 years. 

    The company has already held a meeting with villagers.

  6. Arriva Trains North urge RMT to 'get back around table'

    A 24-hour rail strike on Northern services will go ahead after talks failed to resolve a dispute over the role of guards.

    A row between the RMT union and Arriva Rail North over plans for driver-only-operated trains has already led to one strike, at one stage this week the strike looked like being lifted. 

    RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "The responsibility for the inevitable disruption lies wholly with the company" and that Arriva Trains North were trying to "bulldoze through" plans. 

    But Richard Allan from Arriva Rail North said “It is hugely disappointing that RMT is making demands rather than working with us. We urge them to get back around the table.”

  9. Employment agency goes into administration

    An employment agency based in West Yorkshire says it's going into administration.

    Transline, which is based in Brighouse had supplied temporary workers to Sports Direct's warehouse in Derbyshire.

    It also recently lost a contract with Amazon. The company announced it is in administration in Leeds today.

  10. Teenage girl raped in Doncaster

    A teenage girl has been attacked and raped in Doncaster last night.

    The attack happened in the Balby area of the town at about 19:40.

    The 16-year-old was walking along Regent Street when she was approached by a man. He attacked her and then he ran off from the area. 

    Detectives say that they don't have a description, but that "officers are working with the girl to obtain one".

  11. Dolly's library scheme turns page in Castleford

    The Dolly Parton Imagination Library scheme is coming to the Airedale Library in Castleford near Wakefield.

    People who register will be sent one age-appropriate book each month by post, right up until their child’s fifth birthday. 

    Babies born after the 1 September 2016 can be signed up for the scheme and those that attend the library on 3 May will get a free Peter Rabbit book.

    The scheme originally launched in Parton's home county of Sevier, Tennessee in 1996. 

    It now runs in the US, Canada, Australia as well as the UK.

  12. Search for relatives of Ryedale 'love poem' prayer book couple

    A charity shop worker who found a prayer book containing a personalised wartime love poem is appealing for help to reunite it with the family.

    The book belonged to a couple in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, and turned up nearly 300 miles away at a charity shop in West Sussex.

    Shop worker Julie Angell‎ said she wanted to reunite it with the couple's living relatives.

    The book was given to Nancy Harrison by her husband Jim while he was serving in North Africa in 1943.

    A hand-written message reads: "With love to Nancy, in remembrance of our wedding day, 14th September 1938."

  13. Police renew appeal over missing Sheffield woman and daughter

    A fresh appeal has begun in to the disappearance of 22-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter.

    Besfortha Bharaj and her daughter Elia were last seen on Thursday 20 April in the Shirecliffe area of Sheffield at noon.

    This new photograph has been published by South Yorkshire Police anyone with information is being asked to call 101 and incident number 1193.
