Uber driver fined after council prosecution

A taxi driver who was illegally working in York has been fined.

City of York Council, responding to complaints by local taxi drivers, investigated Mohammed Nawaz, 25, of Cark Road Keighley.

Bradford campaigns to be part of proposed HS3 rail scheme

The Rail Minister has spoken positively about the campaign for a station in Bradford as part of the proposed HS3 rail scheme .

Bradford Council says it will be "pushing very hard" to be included in the Leeds to Manchester line.

Speaking in the Commons, the Labour MP for Bradford South Judith Cummins urged it to be made a priority.

A woman found guilty of encouraging terrorism after she retweeted a speech by the so-called Islamic State leader has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Mary Kaya, 57, from Batley, West Yorkshire, had denied posting a link to an audio clip by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

She was found guilty after a trial of dissemination of a terrorist publication likely to encourage people to participate in terrorism.

Kaya received a two-year term.

Sheffield woman sentenced after pleading guilty to terrorist offence

A 22-year-old woman from Sheffield has today been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to disseminating terrorist material online.

Fatimah Peer-Mohd (also known as Fatimah Peer-Mohamed) of Earl Marshall Road in Sheffield admitted to one count of disseminating terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 at Sheffield Crown Court.

Peer-Mohd was arrested in May 2015 by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit after postings were made on social media that were pro ISIS and anti-Western.

Assel Al-Essaie death: Arrest made

Police investigating the death of Aseel Al-Essaie in Upperthorpe in Sheffield last month have arrested a 35-year-old man.

He's in police custody on suspicion of assisting offenders. 

Mr Al-Essaie was shot at about 13:35 on Saturday 18 Febraury in Daniel Hill. He later died in hospital.

Yorkshire's Stephanie Hirst to be the voice of Channel 4

Barnsley's Stephaine Hirst has taken to social media to announce she'll be the voice of Channel 4 tomorrow night to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility .

"Hirsty" who was a voice on commerical radio in Yorkshire for many years made the transition from male to female in 2014 .

Power cut hits 2,400 properties

More than 2,000 properties in York and the surrounding area were left without electricity today after a major power cut.

About 2,400 properties in the YO10, YO18,YO19,YO23,YO24,YO32,YO60 areas were affected.

Toddler snatched before being rescued by passer-by in Leeds

A member of the public's being praised for stopping the abduction of a toddler in Leeds.

The attempted abduction, which took place at 16:30 on Wednesday on Tunstall Road, Beeston, was prevented by the "public-spirited" passer-by, who also detained the woman until the police arrived. 

As a result one woman's been arrested, and a police investigation's underway after the incident.

This was clearly a very distressing incident for the little girl and her mother."
