  2. Yorkshire's weather forecast

    Cloud and rain persisting through the evening with heavy bursts in places, and some brisk winds.

    Rain becoming more intermittent and showery overnight, with winds easing and a minimum temperature of about 5C (41F). 

    Tomorrow will see further outbreaks of mainly light rain at first, but these should gradually clear northwards, with a chance of some drier and brighter intervals developing.

  3. Guns and machete among weapons surrended during amnesty

    Two handguns, an air rifle, and an assortment of knives and axes have been handed in to West Yorkshire Police as part of a weapons amnesty.


    People have until tomorrow to surrender their weapons at  West Yorkshire police stations without facing prosecution for possessing them .

    By yesterday afternoon about 180 weapons had been handed in.

  5. Cost of Sheffield tree protests revealed

    Protests over the removal of trees in Sheffield have resulted in delays and cost thousands of pounds, according to the city council.

    Answering a question at a full council meeting today, Bryan Lodge, cabinet member for environment, said the felling programme had been put back on about 300 streets in the city.

    He also claimed it would cost millions of pounds to bring the programme up to speed and to cover the cost of legal fees.  

    Protesters say Sheffield City Council contractor Amey is felling healthy trees which don't need to be felled.

  6. Listen: 'Social care needs to be a priority'

    Ahead of next week's budget, the Prime Minister is being invited to Scarborough to see for herself what's being described as a social care crisis in the town.

    North Yorkshire-based chair of the Independent Care Group, Mike Padgham, says the government must increase spending so the most vulnerable can be properly cared for.

    He says he hopes Theresa May will read his letter and make social care a priority:

  7. Charity walkers leave Yorkshire

    About 40 Barnsley fans have left Yorkshire as they walk their way to Derby today.

    Their aim is to get to Derby by 14:00 tomorrow afternoon and watch their team play Derby County in the Championship.  

    I hope they packed their raincoats, because it's been pouring down...

    The group's raising money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably in memory of Ashley Salkeld, a Barnsley fan who committed suicide aged 25.

  9. Watch: Sheffield's robot scanner ROSA in action

    An appeal is being launched to try to keep a robot that does pioneering brain surgery in Sheffield.    

    The robot, known as ROSA, allows surgeons to plan operations accurately, without having to be too intrusive for the patient:

  10. Listen: Huddersfield A&E campaigners welcome NHS beds plans

    Campaigners trying to save Huddersfield's A&E department have welcomed calls not to make big cuts in the number of hospital beds across the country. 

    The head of NHS England says beds should not be done away with as part of cost-cutting measures, unless it's proved they're not needed. 

    Christina George, from the group trying to stop A&E services moving from Huddersfield to Halifax, says she hopes today's announcement will help:

    British Basketball returns to BBC Sport this evening for the BBL league fixture between Cheshire Phoenix and Leeds Force.

  14. Leeds school placed in special measures

    A Leeds primary school has been rated inadequate by inspectors and placed in special measures.

    Education watchdog Ofsted says the quality of teaching and standard of behaviour at Richond Hill Primary, in Cross Green, aren't good enough.

  15. Footage shows level crossing crash chase

    A motorist has captured the moments shortly before a suspected stolen car crashed into a railway level crossing, badly injuring the driver.

    The footage, recorded on a dashcam by Glenn Jones, shows a Vauxhall Corsa being followed by a police car.

    Just after the recording was made, the Vauxhall smashed into barriers in Langworth, Lincolnshire, on Thursday after failing to stop for police. 

    Three people from South Yorkshire have been arrested in connection with the incident , while two boys, aged 15 and 16, remain in hospital.

  16. Scooter rider seriously hurt in hit-and-run

    A scooter rider has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley this week.

    Police say they think the car could be a red or burgundy Rover 25 with significant damage to the front bumper. 

    The hit-and-run happened at about 18:25 on Wednesday on Highstone Lane.

    The scooter rider was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

    Police are asking for help in tracing the driver who drove off the scene of the crash.

    Huddersfield Town fans have set off on a two-day charity walk taking in West Yorkshire's major football grounds.

    They're going from The Shay to Valley Parade, Elland Road and back to The John Smith Stadium.
