Goodnight!

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Thanks for joining us on the live blog tonight - it was even enough in the first half but Leeds came out with a bite in the second and were relentless in their pressure, Doukara scoring one of the best goals you'll ever see.

2-0 against a Forest side that have looked better since Gary Brazil's arrival, but ultimately didn't have enough in the tank to hold Leeds all the way.

We'll be back on Sunday 29th January, when Leeds travel to Sutton United in the FA Cup.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Something special happening

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Adam Pope

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

How many times have we said something very special is happening here? And when was the last time we were able to say this for so long, week in, week out? We said it at times under Brian McDermott but this is something else.

DANNY FOX: We matched Leeds at times

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Danny Fox
PA

We matched them more or less in the first half and it was neatly-contested. The second half, Wood got the goal from the deflection and the second - he'll never score like that again in his life.

I've never been involved in a game where someone scores as good a goal as that - but we have to go again.

GARY BRAZIL: Leeds knew they were in a game

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Gary Brazil
PA

I thought we defended well, first half, and it was a very strong performance against a good Leeds side. We lost a bit of tempo in the second half and you could see us visibly fall away.

That said, we lost to a set piece and a worldie goal. We're disappointed in the first but you just have to stand back and applaud the second one. There wasn't a lot of difference between the two teams and that's what we need to take home with us and work on.

We know the players need to be a bit fitter and it's important that we get them there. That will take time to do and we'll have to do that. But we were the team that were pushing at the end and I'm proud of that.

We kept going and we kept trying. We spoke last night about what a Forest team gives, and we gave that tonight. I'm very proud of the first half performance and Leeds knew they were in a game. It's a big learning curve.

DANNY FOX: Lack of fitness showed

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Danny Fox
PA

Training is really tough but I don't think we were training as hard as we could under the old regime. We were wanting to do things after 60 mintues but we couldn't with our legs.

I think we started brightly and kept them quiet - we had a few good chances ourselves - but we just need to continue what we're doing. The lads love working under Gary but the decision to hire him is not for me to make. They're honest and tell you how it is, and we're going into games positive. I'd like to see them stay.

Forest need to earmark winnable games

Leeds 2-0 Forest

Colin Fray

BBC Radio Nottingham Sport

Forest and Bristol were very even in terms of quality last week, but that wasn't enough tonight - Leeds were better. Going forward, Forest will almost have to plan to find the games that will be even, where they can look to capitalise - I've heard before about Sam Allardyce earmarking crucial games.

GARRY MONK: We don't make excuses

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Garry Monk
PA

Doukara's goal was an important one in the context of this game. It was one of those where you might try 100 times in training and hit once - it was on the swivel, so required technique and concentration.

The players that came off were fantastic. It was about being able to turn the screw. We know we are one of the fittest teams in the league and that's by design. We have to use that to galvanise ourselves as well and it's about putting that constantly on other teams.

We have to maintain our focus now and take it game-by-game. That is our focus. It's difficult to maintain the levels we have been performing at for every game but we try and balance that.

We want to progress in the cup at the weekend and we don't have a culture where we make excuses. I will assess the players over the next few days and we will do the right training - it's an artificial pitch at Sutton and we have one of those at Thorp Arch.

GARRY MONK: You won't see a better strike this season

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Garry Monk
PA

Forest's game plan to slow the tempo and make it frustrating for us lowered our intensity and play - when it's even, it can go either way. They had one really good chance but I spoke about putting our intensity out there - we controlled the game and could have had two more.

The really pleasing thing was that we bounced back from our defeat, and that was the most important thing as well as the three points.

Chris Wood's finish was fantastic but he knows it's not about what you do - it's about what you keep doing. We're happy for him but he knows he keeps focused and keeps that intensity, and that's what delivers goals - he knows that.

Doukara's - you're not going to see a better strike this season, I don't think. It was a stunned celebration from the whole stadium. Straight from there, we could have had three or four, but Forest came with purpose.

Time to make history

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

There is a pride in winning games, in keeping clean sheets, as a team. Players have that grit between their teeth and have the fans behind them, urging them on. They're at a great club with a great history - and now it's time for them to start making their own.

There is a different mentality now. Leeds do grind teams down, do hurt them.

Reverse of Barnsley tonight

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

We had it against Barnsley - we were languid, let them close us down. It was the reverse tonight. We were playing with such an intensity, such purpose in the closing down - Leeds were not letting them look up, do anything.

I thought Roofe put some good balls into the box tonight and his work rate was good. He likes that feeling of scoring and wants more of it, but sometimes he does have to look up and find the right pass. You can't shoot through three people at this level.

Clear it was game over

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Colin Fray

BBC Radio Nottingham Sport

You could almost sense the Leeds pressure was going to make something happen. The second half was the first time Leeds had been able to put a sustained pressure on Forest - but even at 1-0, it was clear it was game over.

Doukara's goal unbelievable

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Volleys are hard to master because of the power - but that didn't have any power on it. It came out and the technique - what a strike. The power he has had to generate - you could tell, as soon as it came off his boot, that there was only one direction it was going in.

Right personalities key

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

You have the right leaders, managers, personnel and teammates at this club.  That celebration - you have to be a part of this club to do that, and they all are. There are no cliques.

Doukara shot unstoppable

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Brian Laws

Ex-Forest defender on BBC Radio Nottingham

That second goal - you hit that and you'll score one in a hundred, one in a thousand. That was unstoppable. You can't stop that. You have to hold your hands up - if I'm going to concede, I want to concede one like that.

You don't want to concede goals that were avoidable. The first header was dealt with, but the second? You can't have Wood on his own and Mancienne gets sucked towards the ball.

Leeds relentless

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Brian Laws

Ex-Forest defender on BBC Radio Nottingham

I spoke to the Leeds reporter at half time and he said Leeds weren't very good - but I think that's because Forest closed down and didn't allow Leeds to be good. When Leeds stepped up to the mark, though - they had more quality and they were relentless after that. They were making Forest make mistakes.

One-way traffic

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Brian Laws

Ex-Forest defender on BBC Radio Nottingham

Leeds stepped up into a gear that Forest couldn't match. Forest won the game at the weekend with hard work and graft, and no real organisation - but that wasn't enough here. Leeds had more to give and they caused so many problems, second half.

It was one-way traffic, right from the very start. They were wanting for quality and a cutting edge against a very good Leeds side, and that's the way Forest are. They work hard and that honesty might drive them through, but they will probably need more against good sides.

BreakingFULL TIME: LEEDS 2-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Leeds' tenth league win at home - all the reaction to come.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Corner goes straight out for a goal kick. Huh.

BreakingYELLOW - AYLING

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

A tad late in the challenge on Osborn - first booking of the game. Forest can't quite get the break from the free kick but get in round the back - but Jansson closes down to smother the threat. Forest have a corner after Jansson must head over and out.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Corner ball for Forest but Jansson meets it. Lichaj delivers it back into the area but Bridcutt blocks and Forest have to chase down the clearance. Doukara does well to watch Lichaj all the way and surrender a throw at the right time.

BreakingFOUR ADDED MINUTES

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Cash knocks it into the box but Bartley clears confidently. Forest are playing with direction and aim but are just struggling to get anything away.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Choruses of 'SHOOOOOOOT' every time Doukara finds himself with the ball - Leeds are playing keep-ball here until Vieira surrenders possession to Lam.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Vieira is holding off really seasoned professionals and we've seen that time and again - he shows real mental strength to go in for the challenges he does. A ragged Forest are really being put to the test here now - this is the response we all wanted to see.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Osborn's free kick is headed away by Ayling, who hounds the ball all the way into the Forest box. Leeds break with a real purpose as Ayling picks out Wood, but the flag is up for offside.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Brian Laws

Ex-Forest defender on BBC Radio Nottingham

Leeds have stepped it up a gear but they're only as good as Forest allow them to be. Leeds have more quality and they have shown that. Even then - that could have been 3-0 as Wood knocks it back to Roofe, who fires it wide. Lechaj is fouled by Bridcutt for a Forest free kick from 25 yards.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Bridcutt is fouled and Leeds have a free kick halfway inside their own half - but the ball goes out for a Leeds throw as Forest deal with it instantly. Fox clears at the near post as Leeds pile on the pressure again.

BreakingLEEDS SUB: Mowatt ON, Hernandez OFF

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Hernandez swings in the corner and the second ball reaches Doukara from the same distance - and everyone implores him to SHOOOOOOT, but it falls to Wood, who can't quite get the shot away. Moments later, Wood finds himself in a quasi-one-on-one, with the keeper committing early, but he can't add to his tally.

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Adam Pope

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

I am literally flabbergasted, still, from that goal. Leeds are relentless in pursuing their play right now. Hernandez lifts it back inside the penalty area and Fox must head it away for a corner - Forest are being tortured here. What Monk has done... The confidence in this team is special.

BreakingNOTTINGHAM FOREST SUB: Assombalonga OFF, Brereton ON

Leeds 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Adam Pope

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

The shape of that, the power on the volley - that is superb. It nearly broke the net. It was absolutely amazing. Don't try that one at home, kids - you'll break windows and all sorts. Technique-wise, that was stunning. His first touch, as well. We've had some special moments this season but that one is right up there.

Eunan O'Kane is being replaced by Ronaldo Vieira, by the way.

BreakingGOAL: LEEDS 2-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST - DOUKARA

THAT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD! Wood takes the free kick and it deflects for corner. Hernandez takes the free kick and Mancienne clears - but Doukara batters it on the volley with real force and it rattles the back of the net.

Leeds 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Hernandez flicks it over the top to win a free kick for Leeds from 35 yards out, but I'm so impressed by Leeds' work off the ball. They have shown so much desire to hurry Forest into mistakes and it's made such a difference. Their passing has been clean and incisive.

BreakingLEEDS UNITED SUB: Dallas OFF, Doukara ON

Leeds 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Leeds 1-0 Nottingham Forest

O'Kane clips the ball to the back post and Hernandez brings it down, but he can't hold off two players. Cash ultimately clears it, but not before Bartley fends off Assombalonga in stunning show of desire.

Leeds 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Wood flicks on the kick-out from Green but it goes back to Stephen Henderson. There's a foul on Bartley from Assombalonga and Leeds take the free kick quickly, but Bridcutt's ball to Berardi is short and he must foul. Forest take a quick free kick and Assombalonga strikes lazily from 35 yards - a very lethargic shot that arcs over the bar.
