Goodnight!

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Thanks for joining us on the live blog tonight. We hate a cliche but it definitely was a game of two halves - Rotherham started brightly but dropped off dramatically, while Leeds were the other way round.

We'll be back on Monday 9th January, when Leeds travel to Cambridge in the third round of the FA Cup.

Until then, enjoy the rest of your week.

GAETANO BERARDI: We don't think about the table

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

We don't think about the table and just think in terms of every game. There are a lot of teams in the top ten and anything can happen.

We have a good team and good players, and the manager and the staff are working well. We focus on the next game, work a lot on formations every day - everybody enjoys the sessions and I think we are showing what we can do. The atmosphere is very good: every day in the dressing room, before the game and after the game.

I think I'm too old for international football now, though!

GAETANO BERARDI: We can win every game

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Second half, we played very well. It was a good battle [on the right]. There is challenge for every position and it is good for the team. My form, I think, is good and I'm just trying to do my best every game.

Every time against Rotherham - another elbow to my face! But my face is OK. Rotherham stayed a lot at the back and closed their spaces, as we saw first half, but if we play like the gaffer wants - we can win every game.

Bridcutt's personality spot on

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Gareth Jones

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

You have to come here and buy into this place. Liam Bridcutt does that. He took part in our Question of West Yorkshire Sport quiz and he was chatting with the fans for ages. He epitomises the character around the club.

More on Kemar Roofe

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Roofe is enjoying life in that number ten role and is a different player to the one who got no joy out wide. He's had to change the game and it's working.

Monk key to Roofe's development

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Gareth Jones

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

Roofe has really matured this season. Monk could easily have loaned him out, but he's stuck with him - it shows Monk's belief in him.

Noel on prospective signings

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Would someone be content to sit on the bench and watch Chris Wood get to 20 goals? That's a question you end up asking of a lot of the strikers people are discussing.

But it's the way you sell it to the player. The club sells itself but players have to feel like they can play a part, be involved, that they have a role to play - like they can be the difference in some games. I don't think Monk will change the formation - today has shown the 4-3-2-1 works and he'll have to find players to fit that.

It might be the case that Wood gets injured and you need players to step in and do a good job.

Top two for Leeds?

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

The top two? Well, I think we'll just quietly go about our business. Teams will slip up but we look strong.

Good managers make changes. Monk often does wait but he could see he had to change it early - he had the strength to do that.

The goals were team goals, and that's what he will be happy about. Everyone is contributing.

Berardi or Taylor?

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Berardi is Mr. Consistent - he's solid and aggressive and he's been getting forward a lot more. But when he gets in that crossing position, he's crossing with his weaker foot on the left hand side. He'd be OK on the right.

Taylor's been brought up with a box-to-box mentality but he's been mixed this year. But there's a lot of pressure on him - he's putting the effort in despite what people say, but he's in a difficult position with the speculation about his contract, and it will be hard for him.

Monk has been a credit to Leeds

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Adam Pope

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

Maybe this squad have over-performed to some people - they haven't expected the young players to do as well as they have, but they've all stepped up. I don't want Leeds to exhaust their resources. But the way the systems have been handled, and the players - Monk has been a credit to Leeds.

GARRY MONK: Lots more to come from Leeds

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Eunan O'Kane is back out training with us.

It's great to be where we are but you can see how hard we fight for three points. That's all that matters and that's been the message since the start of the season, internally. The improvements we've made are massive but there's still a lot more to come from this team.

We do need one or two in the window to help this group and the club are aware of that. January is a very tricky window, but the club's working hard. They know what the team needs and the areas but we'll keep that to ourselves for now.

GARRY MONK: No players will be leaving

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

No players will be leaving. This is Leeds United. They're all here and they're all committed - it will all be incomings.

Garry MonkLeeds United boss

GARRY MONK: Second half was much more like ourselves

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

We looked disjointed everywhere, first half, so I made the change - Ronnie [Ronaldo Vieira] injected some energy and emergency that the other players fed off, and they went together. We were more fluid and attacked well, were stronger at set-pieces at both end. That second half was much more like ourselves.

No injuries to mention before Cambridge - there will be changes, but we want to go down there and win. Whoever comes in will be ready. There will be some changes but I'll identify them closer to the time.

MONK: First 45 was as poor as I've seen

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

The first 45 was as poor as I've seen - we were lucky to come through that unscathed. They came to trying to slow it down and we played into their hands. I explained we had to be at our best and play at our pace, with our urgency in our play. We had three clear onsides that were offsides that could have been chances.

We talk a lot in the group that unless we're at 100%, we can suffer. I felt we were very lucky in that first half. Great reaction from the players, but I said - no disrespect to Rotherham - we're not going to be afforded moments like in the first half. That's the lesson we've learned form today. These players are learning all the time but we want to make sure we're at 100% every minute.

Bartley is the key man

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Adam Pope

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

On the opening day, against QPR - Kyle Bartley was so down afterwards, and he said they had miles to go if they wanted to be better. This team all look after each other, and this goes back to the great sides of the 70s - good sides show that spirit. Bartley is the epitome of unity: in the huddle, the warm-up, during the game - he is at the heart of it.

Key Leeds moments?

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

I think Rob Green's double save in the first half was key, given the way the game was going. Then the character, second half, was different class. Leeds were more comfortable and more dangerous - it wasn't good enough during the first 45 mins, and the players knew that. They knew they had another few gears to go through and they did that. They stopped waiting to put the ball in the box.

I don't remember Vieira giving the ball away - he won lots of challenges. He's thriving because everyone is full of confidence. It's important we manage him right.

Wood's second goal - holding the man off is hard, but then to land on the deck, keep it close to your body and hit it like that.. That's a special striker, in the form of his life.

Strength of character obvious

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

I think it shows the players' strength of character. They, themselves, realise it isn't good enough and buck their own ideas up. They know playing like that will not give them the win they need so they have to muster the energy themselves.

All change second half

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It's kind of shown - even when Leeds are not at their best, they can still win three points. They weren't in sixth gear to begin with but they got there.

Monk must have told them to stop taking loads of touches, because then the moment's gone. Wood is over six foot - get it in there. It's common sense - put it in the right area and people will get on the end of it.

'Job unbelievably done'

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Gareth Jones

BBC West Yorkshire Sport

We were saying we'd take 1-0, as these are the kind of games you just have to win - it was like that first half, but it became 'job unbelievably done'. Leeds have performed at home all season, but so many times, when they've had big crowds and big occasions, they haven't delivered. But they've done it today.

BreakingFULL TIME: LEEDS 3-0 ROTHERHAM

All the reaction to come.

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Berardi sends it to Antonsson, who tries to offload to Dallas, but Brown does well to shrug off Berardi and keep the visitors in the danger zone. Rotherham get the shot away but it hits Bridcutt and goes out for a corner. The corner comes in and no one can control it - out for a goal kick.

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Adeyemi off, just receiving treatment. Dallas and Antonsson link-up in the final third and look dangerous, but the offside flag is up.

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

The first half was nowhere near good enough. The formation, the 4-4-2, matching them up, wasn't working. Switching back to the tried and trusted worked. That said, no formation would have done, first half - the quality was so poor. Leeds are playing with a real tempo now.

BreakingFOUR ADDED MINUTES

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Jonathan Buchan

This has been such a sucker punch - Rotherham started so well. Frecklington is limping now - they may even have to play with ten men now, to cap it all off. Hernandez takes the free kick low and it bounces off the post - Vieira collects it but Belaid heads it away as Dallas and Frecklington come back onto the field of play.

There's a huge buzz in the city - the amount of kids you see wearing Leeds shirts now, and not Premier League clubs, says a lot. That connection is important. These kids have cult heroes, people they can aspire to.

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Just close it down, now - no need to take anymore risks. Mind you - Bartley's charging forward now and gets it to Hernandez, who knocks to Dallas... Oooft. That's a nasty challenge. Dallas had lifted his leg up to shoot and he's bundled over. Leeds have a free kick on the edge of the D but Dallas is getting treatment.

Offside for Antonsson as he gets away early. Ayling clears from Fisher and Berardi can't keep that one in - Rotherham corner.

BreakingLEEDS SUB: WOOD OFF, ANTONSSON ON

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Wood denied his hat-trick with nine to go. Little melee before the sub here - Fisher a little heavy on Berardi, then Berardi throws him to the deck.

Leeds 3-0 Rotherham

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

You'll work on one-touch crossing every day - and that's how you do it. Sometimes, players want to cut back - but Wood was there, and he thanked Roofe for handing him such a good cross. If the striker's not there, then cut back and ask questions of your striker. But your delivery has to be good.

BreakingGOAL: LEEDS 3-0 ROTHERHAM - WOOD

Another team performance, another team goal. Ayling finds Roofe, who delivers a quality one-touch cross for Chris Wood to knock home with ease.

Leeds 2-0 Rotherham

Berardi sends it into Wood, who lays it back off for him. Well worked in the build-up play, but Berardi can only toe-poke it with his right and it goes wide.

Leeds 2-0 Rotherham

Hernandez nutmegs, at last. Contractually obliged to do at least one of those a game.
