Nick Wilmshurst

BBC Local Live, Leeds

That's it from me for today, we'll be back again tomorrow from 08:00 with more news, travel, weather and sport.

Until then, here are five things we learned today:

  1. Accidents happen - and when they do you can expect to sit in the tailback for an hour
  2. Let's make Leeds great again. Justin Moorhouse for president
  3. Need somewhere safe to store your moustache sir?
  4. No matter what age you are, it's impossible not to point out a rainbow
  5. And black poppy roses will be laid at Remembrance Sunday services in Leeds for the first time

See you tomorrow.

Police arrest two in van theft crackdown

If you were witness to a bit of police activity this afternoon in Batley this is why:

West Yorkshire Police

The reason is that officers were performing what they call a "tactical vehicle stop". You may have seen it on those police TV programmes.

It's where they surround a vehicle with their cars and bring it to a stop,

West Yorkshire Police say this is the second one they performed today, both on stolen vans. Two people have been arrested.

Weather: Forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Paul Hudson

Weather presenter, BBC Look North

Scattered showers dying out tonight, becoming dry with clear periods. Minimum temperature -2C (28F) with a widespread frost and fog patches.

Any fog will be quite slow to clear tomorrow morning, otherwise a dry and bright day expected with sunny spells. Maximum temperature 8C (46F).

Watch: Black poppy wreaths to be laid in Leeds

Abi Jaiyeola

Reporter, BBC Look North

Black poppy roses have been designed to mark the contribution of soldiers from African and Caribbean countries during conflicts of the last century.

In 2016, for the first time, wreaths of them will be laid at Remembrance Sunday services in Leeds.

Two teenagers hospitalised after robbery in Dewsbury

Two 16-year-old boys needed hospital treatment after being robbed in Dewsbury Market.

Dewsbury Market

The incident happened after 20:30 on Thursday 27 October. The two victims were approached by a group of men and were hit until they fell to the floor. The assault continued while they lay on the ground.

A gold Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge phone, a Hublot watch and cash were taken from them.

Jamie Ellis: Hull KR sign Huddersfield Giants half-back as five leave

Relegated Hull KR have signed Huddersfield Giants half-back Jamie Ellis on a season-long loan deal.

Jamie Ellis

Ellis, 27, played 17 Super League games in 2016, scoring five tries.

Meanwhile, Albert Kelly, Mitch Allgood, Kevin Larroyer, Josh Mantellato and John Boudebza have all been released.

Travel update: Problems in Huddersfield

BBC Travel

We've got some very slow traffic on the A629 Wakefield Road in Huddersfield. It's partially blocked eastbound between Shorehead Roundabout and the Grosvenor Road junction, because of a broken down lorry. It's leading to congestion on A62 Southgate to the Northumberland Street junction.

101 year old Ernest Carr from Yeadon could be Britain's oldest poppy seller.
One of Britain's oldest poppy sellers describes himself as the "luckiest man alive".

Two arrested for growing cannabis

Two men have been arrested after a cannabis farm was discovered at a house in Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police

After a tip-off from locals police swooped on the property on Crosland Road in Thornton Lodge on Monday. About 240 fully-grown plants were found which were ready for harvesting.

The two men, aged 21 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of the production of a controlled drug and immigration offences.

The drugs have now been sent for destruction and the farm has been dismantled. Thanks to information received from the local community, we have prevented a significant amount of cannabis from potentially being sold on our streets."

Further talks in Arriva dispute

Earlier I was telling you about the planned 24-hour strike that bus drivers for Arriva in West Yorkshire are due to be taking part in.

Well this afternoon we understand that further talks aimed at averting industrial action are due to take place tomorrow.

About 850 Arriva drivers at depots in Castleford, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike and Wakefield are due to walk out at 03:00 on Monday.

Surgery could close because of lack of doctors

A doctors' surgery in Keighley could close because no GPs can be found to run it.

Today, patients get a chance to question officials about its future.

North Street Surgery

The North Street Surgery has about 6,700 patients but the current operator's contract runs out at the end of the month - and there isn't a company willing to take it over.

Staff have been told it could potentially close and if that happened, patients would have to go to one of the other four practices in the town, two of which we're told are close to capacity.

The NHS says making sure all patients have access to a GP is a priority.

Weekend stargazers to enjoy biggest 'supermoon' since 1948

If you're up late on Sunday night you could be in for an astronomical treat - a view of the biggest "supermoon" in 68 years.

On the night of the 13/14 November, the moon will come closer to Earth than at any point since 1948 .

It will appear up to 30% brighter and 14% bigger than an average full moon, according to NASA.

It will be the brightest and largest of three "supermoons" to occur in 2016. The first came on 16 October 16 with the third due on 14 December.

Arriva has just released a list of the routes that will be affected and revised timetables.

In pictures: Rainbows over West Yorkshire

Earlier this morning we were treated to lots of sightings of rainbows across West Yorkshire.

I would have shared them earlier but for the problems on the M1...

Still, at least it's something nice to look at while you're sitting in a 10-mile queue.

We start off in Shipley:

Travel update: M1 begins to reopen

BBC Travel

The northbound carriageway has now reopened on the M1 at J44-J45, and the southbound now has just one lane closed after the earlier accident which damaged the central reservation.

Ambitious new homes plan for Leeds could be cut

A target of 70,000 new homes to be built in Leeds is set to be reduced - but it'll take a public inquiry to get there.

The 70,000 figure was meant to be reached by 2028, but has been called "impossible" by members of Leeds City Council's opposition group.

The authority's ruling Labour group says the target, which has triggered campaigns against building plans in several parts of Leeds, is being reviewed.

Travel update: Problems on the M1

BBC Travel

This is the reason thousands of motorists have been delayed this morning on the M1, M62 and on various routes around Garforth and Rothwell.

Earlier this morning a car crashed onto its roof and ended up on the central reservation of the M1 at J45-J44. Currently it's still down to one lane in both directions with long tailbacks.

Latest update from M1

This morning an accident on the M1 has been causing some major delays around Leeds.

The road is down to just one lane both north and southbound. There are ten miles of queues northbound, and if you're heading southbound you can expect an hour's delay.

Many drivers are telling us saying they've not moved far at all in the last hour.

The delays are due to an accident, where a car has overturned on the central reservation and is also causing problems around Garforth.

Travel update: Problems on the M1

BBC Travel

We've just heard that the northbound carriageway on the M1 at J45-J44 has been partially reopened but is still down to one lane. Travel time is at least 30mins.

If you're heading southbound, there's still only one lane open and  you can expect a delay of 70 mins.

Travel update: Problems on the M62

BBC Travel

That accident on the M1 looks like it's also affecting the M62 eastbound too.

This is a queue that stretches from Leeds to Brighouse. That's from J25 to J27:

Travel: Problems on the M1

BBC Travel

Here's that accident on the M1 in more detail. The northbound carriageway is completely closed northbound. On the southbound side, we have two lanes closed.

It's because of an overturned car between J44 and J45 which has gone across both carriageways. Northbound there are queues to J42 and south to J47.

Here is the queue where the M1 and the M621 split:
