    The 25-year-old, who is now at Plymouth Albion, joined Premiership side Sale in May 2016 but made just six top-flight appearances and was released from his contract at the end of last season.

    Mugford hopes he will help other sportsmen and women by speaking out.

    Dashcam footage has captured a 71-year-old drink-driver's "appalling driving" and subsequent crashes.

    Carole Rose, of Harbury Avenue, Ainsdale admitted dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit.

    She was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, banned from driving for three years and ordered to take an extended retest.

  7. Bridge collapse delays station reopening

    A bridge collapse caused by a burst water main has delayed the reopening of a railway station that has been closed for almost two weeks.

    Bolton rail station

    The majority of services have been disrupted at Bolton train station, while works for electric trains between Manchester and Preston take place.

    It was due to reopen on Monday but the rupture caused a section of Moses Gate bridge to collapse on to the railway.

    Network Rail said station would close for another week for safety works.

  12. Missing A-level papers 'affected Liverpool students' grades'

    Some students in Liverpool may have missed out on university places after an exam board lost A-level papers.

    English Literature papers for 34 pupils at St Margaret's Academy in Aigburth have gone missing.

    The AQA board gave the students estimated marks but the school's head teacher said this caused uncertainty over university places for some pupils.

    AQA said it is in discussions with the university admissions service to insure pupils get the places "they deserve".

  14. Collection of Alan Turing letters found

    A lost collection of Alan Turing's letters has been found in an old storeroom at the University of Manchester.

    Mr Turing, who died aged 41 in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in 1954, was influential in the development of theoretical computer science.

    Turing-related material is rare and there were about 150 documents discovered. They include a handwritten draft BBC radio programme about Artificial Intelligence.

    The collection has now been stored at the university, where Turing worked for six years.

  16. Gettin' jiggy with it! Guess who's playing Blackpool this weekend

    Boom! Hollywood star Will Smith is to headline Blackpool's Livewire Festival on Sunday.

    The actor, rapper and songwriter will perform with DJ Jazzy Jeff for the final night of the bash - their only UK show this year.

    The seaside town will also be hosting the North West Motorbike Festival.

    The two-day event, which will feature everything from BMWs to Harley Davidsons, and Ducatis, gets under way at the Winter Gardens tomorrow and will be officially opened by Blackburn's four-time World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty.
