The sacking of a hospital trust chief executive and director of human resources has been upheld after an appeal.

    Jonathan Parry

Jonathan Parry, the chief executive of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, was suspended on full pay last year for gross misconduct following complaints from whistleblowers and later dismissed.

The director of human resources Sharon Partington retired from the trust before the end of the disciplinary procedure, but a panel found had she stayed, she would have been dismissed.

An independent panel reviewing the dismissals as part of an appeal process found both decision to be correct.

  7. Hearing following complaints over Preston bus lane introduction

Six appeals which could decide the legality of Preston's bus lanes have been taking place in the city.

    Fishergate

Lancashire County Council brought in the lanes in October to try to end congestion in the area. The introduction has led to thousands of complaints.

Drivers were issued with £60 fines, or £30 for those who paid early, for using the route on Fishergate between 11:00 and 18:00.

The traffic penalty tribunal has been considering six appeals, including complaints against insufficient sign posting and road markings.

The outcome of the hearing is expected at a later date.
