    Outbreaks of light rain and low cloud will slowly move south-eastwards through the night to affect most areas by dawn. Winds will remain light and it will stay mild.

    Lancashire will need £30m every year for the next 30 years if it is to have an elected mayor, the leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council has claimed.

    Councillor Mohammed Khan said the devolution deal needs to be good enough if it is to get support from the county's councillors.

    Councillor Khan believes council leaders in Lancashire are receptive to the idea of an elected mayo but said the government need to offer enough money to make it attractive.

    Thirty-year deals have been offered to combined authorities in Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region as part of their devolution packages.

    Both areas are due to elect mayors next year.

  6. Two men wanted in connection with Preston assault

    Police have released a CCTV image of two men they wish to speak to after a man was assaulted outside a nightclub in Preston.

    A 22-year-old man was punched in the face several times outside Blitz nightclub on Church Row between 03:00 and 05:00 on 2 December.

    He suffered severe bruising to his face and a fractured eye socket.

  7. Tributes paid to 'devoted' husband

    Tributes have been paid to an elderly pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in Cumbria.

    Peter Hunt, 83, was hit by a car at 20:45 on the A6 near Levens Hall, on 6 December. He died in hospital on Friday.

    The driver of the Kia Picanto was uninjured.

    Mr Hunt's family said the retired Cumbria County Council caretaker was a "devoted" husband to his wife Joyce who would be "greatly missed".

    Mr Hunt would travel from his home in Kendal to Lancaster every day to see his wife Joyce who went into a care home after a sudden change in her health, his family said.

    The owners of Bonds of Elswick are retiring and have failed to find a buyer for the business.

    Twenty members of staff are set to lose their jobs in the closure.

  11. Police drop Strictly's Gorka Marquez Blackpool attack probe

    A police probe into an alleged assault by a gang on a Strictly Come Dancing star has been dropped.

    Gorka Marquez needed dental surgery after two of his lower jaw front teeth were badly chipped when he was attacked by a gang of youths in November, a Strictly spokesman said at the time.

    Mr Marquez did not make a formal complaint to police about the incident.

    Lancashire Police said the force had checked CCTV from the area in Blackpool and found nothing.

    A spokesman said the force had "carried out a proportionate investigation which is now closed" and "no arrests" were made.

  12. Patients urged to avoid A&E for second time

    Patients have been asked to avoid going to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary A&E unit for the second time this week.

    Hospital bosses say they are currently under extreme pressure and experiencing high numbers attending the unit. 

    A similar plea was made on Monday and patients are being asked to consider using other healthcare services where appropriate.

  14. Cricket: Hameed in England Lions squad

    Lancashire and England opener Haseeb Hameed has been included in the Lions squad to tour Sri Lanka in February and March.

    Hameed played three Tests in India before suffering a hand injury and is in the four-day squad. 

    The Lions will play two four-day matches against Sri Lanka A and a five-match one-day series, though the schedule is yet to be finalised. 

  15. Appeal after armed robber threatens betting shop staff

    Police are hunting an armed robber who held up a betting shop in Cleveleys.

    The man threatened a member of staff with a knife at Coral bookmakers on Victoria Road West about 20:00 on Monday.

    He demanded cash from the till before making off with the money, say police.

    The man is described as white, about 5ft 9ins (1.8m) tall, wearing a blue hooded top, light-coloured trousers, trainers and a black balaclava. 

  16. Gorka Marquez: Strictly dancer assault probe dropped by police

    An investigation into an alleged assault on a Strictly Come Dancing star has been dropped after a check of CCTV footage showed no evidence.

    Gorka Marquez, 26, needed dental surgery after two of his front teeth were badly chipped following an incident in Blackpool last month.

    The 26-year-old Spaniard was in the resort for a live edition of the show from the Tower Ballroom when he was assaulted by a "random group of lads", said a Strictly spokesman.

    Lancashire Police said it had contacted the BBC to "establish the details of the incident" but said no complaint had been received from the victim.

    Police said they have "carried out a proportionate investigation which is now closed" and "no arrests" were made.
