Lancashire Police issue warning to drivers about hazardous roads

Lancashire Police have issued a warning about roads in the east of the county that could become hazardous in wintry conditions.

The Grane Road is extremely icy and the driving conditions are very difficult. The worst conditions are after Belthorn Road heading towards Haslingden. We'd strongly advise drivers to avoid this section of the road for the time being until the weather improves.

There are also problems on Green Lane close to Cherry Tree station in Blackburn, where the two small bridges over the railway and the canal are impassable at this time. Please avoid and find an alternative route.

Here's some of the photographs the BBC Weather Watchers have been taking today.

Campaigners challenge government decision to allow fracking in Lancashire

Campaigners have launched a legal challenge against the government's decision to grant permission to frack for shale gas in Lancashire.

Diagram of fracking process

In October, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid approved plans for fracking at Cuadrilla's Preston New Road site at Little Plumpton.

A legal challenge to that decision has been issued by the Preston New Road Action Group, who are being represented by law firm Leigh Day.

The group say the government’s decision to overrule Lancashire County Council’s refusal of planning permission is unlawful because it failed to properly apply relevant planning laws and policy.
