  3. Care home scoops national awards

    A care home in Blackburn has won the Best Dementia Care Home and Best Dementia Care Manager awards at a national ceremony.

    EachStep opened in May 2016 and is part of the charity Community Integrated Care.

    It aims to deliver specialist dementia care by creating a hub for the local community and bringing local people together.

    It has been developed in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council.

  4. Man appears in court after girl, 3, picked up by stranger

    A man has appeared in court after a three-year-old girl was picked up by a stranger in a supermarket in Blackburn.

    The child had been on a travelator in Morrisons in Railway Road at about 15:00 on Thursday,

    A 44 year-old-man, from Chester Street, in Blackburn, was charged with taking a child so as to remove them from a person having lawful control.

    He has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Preston Crown Court on 25 November.

  6. 'Rare' birds spotted at Lancashire nature reserve

    Bird numbers in Lancashire increase over the autumn and winter months meaning that will give a chance for some rare species to appear. 

    A Bittern at Brockholes

    Brockholes Nature Reserve in Preston saw the return of the bittern, a rare heron seen only in a handful of beauty spots in the North West.

    These camouflaged, brown and black members of the heron family have been regular visitors in the reed beds since the Lancashire Wildlife Trust nature reserve opened five years ago.

    This weekend saw Brokholes first sighting of a great grey shrike - a distinctive bird, the size of a thrush, with grey plumage and a black mask.

    A woman crashed into a ditch after losing control of a car in Ormskirk.

    Acres Lane

    She was trapped in the vehicle after crashing in Acres Lane at about 08:00.

    Firefighters freed her before she was taken to hospital.

  10. Witness appeal for after girl, 3, picked up in Blackburn supermarket

    An appeal for witnesses has been made after a three-year-old girl was picked up by a stranger in a supermarket in Blackburn.

    The child had been on a travelator in Morrisons, in Railway Road, at about 15:00 on Thursday.

    Police said CCTV footage shows a number of people in the area at the time and officers are urging anyone who was there to contact them.

  11. Lancashire residents told to prepare for winter weather

    With winter on its way Lancashire residents are being urged to be prepare for colder temperatures.

    Medical professionals say patients most at risk are those with long-term health conditions and people over the age of 65.

    A range of conditions are known to get worse in cold weather such as circulatory diseases, dementia and asthma.

    Plymouth Road in Blackpool is closed in both directions between the Benson Road junction and the Warbreck Hill Road junction, because of bridge maintenance work.

  14. Car crashes into Colne house hitting gas pipe

    A car hit a gas pipe after crashing into a house in Colne.

    Boundary Street, Colne

    The vehicle damaged an external gas pipe at a property in Boundary Street, causing a leak just before 08:30.

    The driver of the car was able to get out of her vehicle.

    People in the house and neighbouring properties were evacuated by the fire service.

    Engineers from National Grid were called out to repair it.

  15. Consultation launched over Clitheroe town centre £9m revamp

    A public consultation over plans for a £9m revamp of Clitheroe town centre has been launched.

    Ribble Valley Borough Council announced the move after plans for the market revamp was met with a mixed reaction from the public.

    The proposal included a new market, hotel and shops.

    The consultation ends on 23 December and the result will be published in January.

    A former Butlin's Redcoat who is suffering from Alzheimer's will be a special guest at Blackburn Christmas lights switch on.

    Ted McDermott, 80, and his son Simon became an internet sensation earlier this year after uploading a video of them singing carpool karaoke.

    Ted then landed a record deal with Decca Records and released a single: You Make Me Feel So Young.

    The pair recently received a Pride of Britain Award for Special Recognition.

    Ted will be part of the switch on alongside Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd who plays David Platt and Britain's Got Talent act Boogie Storm on 26 November.
