  3. Memorial service for bodies found in Blackburn dig

    A memorial service has been held to mark the reburial of hundreds of bodies discovered in Blackburn.

    The Bishop of Blackburn Rt Rev Julian Henderson led a service at 12:00 at the memorial gardens in Wainwright Way.

    He said he had constructed the service to ensure everything was done in a "dignified and a proper way for a very important occasion".

    The bodies of about 800 children aged under six were unearthed by archaeologists in January during the Freckleton Street link road works.

  4. Cricket: Abell hits career-best at Old Trafford

    Tom Abell made a career-best 135 as Somerset largely dominated after being put in by Lancashire at Old Trafford.

    Abell shared an opening stand of 134 with Marcus Trescothick, who reached 1,000 Championship runs for the season before being brilliantly caught at deep square leg on 60 by Simon Kerrigan.

    Chris Rogers (47) helped Abell add a further 93 for the second wicket.

  6. TV documentary shows investigation into Sadie Hartley murder

    A TV documentary will reveal the police case surrounding the murder of a woman from Lancashire  - and how they arrested two women from Chester who were later jailed for the killing.

    Sarah Williams stabbed Sadie Hartley more than 40 times at her own home in Helmshore - while Katrina Walsh helped her plan the brutal attack.

    Last month they were both put behind bars after being found guilty of murder. 

    The programme shows footage of the police interviews including the moment Walsh revealed her friend was the killer.

    You can see the documentary The Murder of Sadie Hartley on ITV tonight at 21:00.

    The Women's Premier League will hold one minute's applause at their next scheduled match for Fylde Ladies midfielder Zoe Tynan.

    Zoe Tynan died aged 18 after being hit by a train at West Allerton station in Merseyside on Tuesday, British Transport Police said.

  9. War veteran’s home burgled during birthday celebrations

    A 96-year-old war veteran's home has been burgled while he was out celebrating his birthday with family.

    A man smashed through a window before stealing an iPad and mobile phone from the property in Black Bull Lane, Fulwood, between 13:30 and 13:55 on Sunday.

  12. Football: England U19 midfielder Zoe Tynan dies aged 18

    England Under-19 Women's and Fylde Ladies midfielder Zoe Tynan has died, aged 18.

    The former Everton and Man City player died at West Allerton station in Merseyside on Tuesday, British Transport Police said.

    Tynan's death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Her family paid tribute to a "vibrant, generous and fun-loving girl", who was "a dedicated athlete, never happier than when she had a ball at her feet".

  13. Appeal over missing 13-year-old girl

    Police are appealing for information about a 13-year-old girl who has been missing from Nelson since Sunday.

    Jessica Wallwork was last seen at about 20:45 at an address in Railway Street in the town.

    She is described as white with shoulder-length, light brown hair and was wearing a blue hooded top with "LEC" on the front, light blue skinny jeans.

    Police said she was carrying a cream-coloured handbag and may have been wearing trainers.
